If I hold the door open for someone, it is not to get gratitude for my act. I see what you are saying, but if you don't get credit for a nice act, saying something rude or sarcastic kind of negates the kindness, doesn't it? very true. i did regret it but just so sick of rudeness I agree. I know what you mean. Sorry to play Devil's Advocate there. |

I just got back from the store. On my way out, I held the door open for an older woman. She walked in without a thankyou, go to he!!, no acknowledgement, nothing. So I told her you are welcome. She looked at me surprised and said "I didn't say anything" well duh....isn't that the point? that's why I keep my trusty lil tube of super glue handy...apply liberally to exit door handle and watch the little light bulb above her head begin to shine. |

At that point I just look 'em in the eye and smile sweetly. Make 'em wonder if you're just a really nice person or some kind of psycho. |

I am very thankful to people that extend a hand. Most of the time people are grateful...it's just that one idiot in the bunch

sometimes i like to do something nice and run, and i make sure they don't see me leave. leaves a mystery.

at the other store, a young kid called me ma'am to help him reach something. i had to look around to see who he was talking to

If I hold a door open for someone I hope they don't say anything cause if they do then I have to waist my breath and say your welcome..... ........Then maybe I shouldn't even do anything so I don't have to speak to anyone.......

Same thing's happened to me countless times...at first I may resent it but then I remember that that's how Momma raised me. I do it for Mom, not to be appreciated by a stranger...
You rock Mom |

i make it a point to hold open doors for anyone..and say thank you when ever some one holds one open for me... when i get lost and stop some where for directions, i always say excuse me i was wondering if u could help me...then i tell them thanks...and people say that young kids dont have manners anymore!

Well, not sure what you mean by "older" but perhaps she comes from a time and location where that is so common it isn't noticed. Remember there was a time when that was just normally done and expected rather than another generation that encountered it so infrequent it became noticeable.
I mean really, if she is 80 or 90 yrs old is it really something to get upset about if she doesn't say thank you or anything. If yes then.......well, nevermind. |

I bought a gal dinner in line at the drive through on Valentines...It was cool cause she could not thank me.
