The problem is that the resilient materials of the satellite itself may not all disintegrate as it re-renters the atmosphere, so the government is trying to use a specially equipped missile to obliterate the last pieces of it...you kow, to avoid a large chunk of metal the size of a car from crashing through your roof in the coming weeks.

I think the this fule is the kind that evaporates or burns up, it may be some sort of radioactive material, better to drop it into the ocean with a missle than to take the chance of letting it hit land. if the fuel in question were Hydrazine it would burn up upon re entry. It is extremely volitile. It is extremely flammable and capable of decomposing and igniting when exposed to air. The oxidizer used in conjunction with it however is Nitrogen Tetraoxide. N2O4 is extremely corrosive and turns to a redish brown gas cloud when exposed to air. If inhaled it will combine with the moisture in your lungs to form nitric acid. However there are not sufficient quantities of either on board to pose a health hazard if they were released at that high of an altitude.

The space shuttle also uses the same chemicals in it's steering motors and you saw what happened when it blew up over Texas. Anything that could burn did burn before it hit the ground. In my opinion the regardless of what is published by the media the toxicity of the fuel an oxidizer are not the problem. There is something there they do not want to hit the ground and possibly land where it could fall into unfriendly hands. It is a "spy" satelite.

I heard about it. I don't see why they don't just let it fall, it will mostly disingrate in the atmosphere anyway.

Our friend :Israel supposedly destroyed an American spy satellite with in this past week that the Americans put up to spy on Israel. Of course you could not blame Israel for that if this is true and ,It probably is. I think they shot up a missile that was full of pellets that destroyed it. On the other hand if this is not the same spy satellite, that Israel shot, then it would be one that Russia disabled with electromagnet pulse weapons. Things are not always as they look like or as represented some times. I guess Russia and China are complaining mostly about the technique of shooting that satellite(Star Wars technology) They claim that US signed agreements not to be using , Practicing or developing, testing ,etc further Star WARS technology ,which both sides already have. And they say the US is breaking their signed agreements.

So it looks like :get prepared to see even worse and greater Wars shortly ahead if the US breaks that agreement.
