When you register a child for school, that is how they do it.
Then the school shows what percentage black and what percentage white, etc. that the school has.

pardon me, but i didnt ask how schools conduct racial categorization. I asked for the rulebook article detailing exactly how having an arbitrary amount of black ancestry automatically classifies one, ipso facto, as black.

There is a one drop rule. Sad but true. The census bureau was still using it in the 1990's. Police departments use it to record racial data.

If you are half Chinese, you are considered Chinese. It starts with the birth certificate.

Google it.

oh ok i see now. white is like cottage cheese and tastes the flavor of what is mixed with it. Doesnt seem to be a real race unless its pure. Dammit all to hell...my mother and father arent considered native american but my great grandmother was. Guess im way too white to capitalize on the minority status of my native american heritage.

Ahhh, but your Native American heritage makes you eligible for some college scholarship money. I think it might be up to 1/16 Native American.

for people that like quotes from wiki:

"Obama was born in Honolulu to a black Kenyan father and a white American mother."

This means, regardless of all other declarations here, by the US census, or wiki, he is multi racial. That means he is not black. He is not white. He is both. Youd figure in a world so gung ho on politically correctness, this wouldnt even be up for discussion.

If you are half black, you are still considered black.

who made up this rule? is it in the human handbook somewhere?

Yes, it was called the one-drop rule.

If Obama was running for president of Ethiopia, would he be considered a white candidate?

I'm beginning to wonder why it is the left that keeps detailing him as black over and over again. Isn't it the "racist white hicks of the south" that are suppose to be detailing that?

It's like, hey did you know Obama was black getting shoved down our throats by the liberal media over and over again, a media that is being EXTREMELY favorable towards him like he poops gold. They dare not say a single thing against him.

I am truly starting to believe the liberal media is playing the 'sorry for slavery you get a free ticket' card and as reparations we will get you into the Presidency and I do think that many in the left of the voters are doing the same thing.

Besides for change (whatever the heck that means) and pulling out of Iraq, what other issues has Obama talked about? Time and time again when asked on the streets those who said they have voted for Obama in the primaries say he will bring change, and say nothing but that. They are incredibly uniformed about him and his issues, they just think he speaks very well, so well he can get support without even detailing anything concrete.

The reason Obama is considered to be black when he has a white mother and a black father goes back to Colonial America. Initially, the law was that any offspring of a slave mother was declared to be black and the legitimate "property" of a slave owner. Later that law was changed in that it declared that anyone with any African ancestry was deemed black and the legitimate "property" of a slave master.

The above is how we have, in the U.S., inherited the idea that anybody with any detectable African ancestry is "black", whether their complexions are ebony, caramel, quite pale or any shade in between.

However, there is another school of thought that states that a man is black or white by the way he defines himself. In Obama's case, he defines himself as being black since he is married to a black woman. Also he choses to be active, not in the white community, but in the black community. One final note is that he does not champion any white causes, but advocates black rights.

cutelitldevilsmom.......

Why would you say such a stupid thing? Just because Obama prefers to identify himself with the black community does not make him racist. The man comes from the best of two worlds, the white world and the black world. He has chosen the black world and that does not make him racist. Additionally, what is wrong with being bi-racial? You seem like a bigot.

I agree, but why is it the leftist media, who also is propping up Barack so greatly while pummeling Hillary, keep on referring to Barack as being black over and over again? Racism?

*sighs* sadly, the idea of "race" has been ingrained in people's heads for generations...

i really wish i could send everyone to a decent biology course just to really see that race really does NOT exist. might shake up some thought processes.

It is true that race is a social construct. However, a friend of mine who is a doctor sums up race by saying that from a scientific classification, that is, in medicine, there is only one race, the human race.

I think voting for someone because he is well spoken is one hell of a step up from voting for the guy that you wouldn't mind having a beer with. drinker
