The Democrats want to get our country out of this mess in Iraq and bring our troops home. If John Mcain or any other Republican win's the presidency do you think there will be a military draft?

Nope. I don't. Maybe someday, but not just because a republican wins presidency. There are republicans who want to change the situation overseas.

A draft will never happen again, short of a world war. It would be career suicide for the parties responsible. Not only that, but the american people don't want a draft, and us soldiers sure as HELL don't want a huge influx of people that don't want to be here... it will hurt us more than it will help us.

That's not true. John Mcain and all of the Republicans have said that they will keep our troops in Iraq and they are not for a timetable for our troops to withdraw from Iraq. If you don't believe me check out the republican debate that they had tonight in the link below where Mcain accuses Romney of wanting a timetable to get our troops out of Iraq, and Romney says he does not want a timetable to get our troops out of Iraq. Copy and paste the link below from CNN.COM to read it:

Hard to say. But then even Democratic Representative
Charles Rangel has pushed for the draft.

It's not just the Republicans.

I think it depends on how soon the Iraqis can take full control of their country.

If this does not happen, or the country erupts in civil war again, then I think it may be likely.

already addressed this on your other post but, if a draft was called, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't go over well with the public, probably escalate to Vietnam level protests or worse. I don't think it would be possible to call a draft at this point, there's too much opposition from both sides of the political spectrum.

We'll leave when the job is done. Progress is being made, although many refuse to see it. Like we say here... prepare for the worst and hope for the best... there's little more you can do. But please, PLEASE don't even consider sending us a bunch of un-trained people that don't want to be here... or wasting our country's tax dollars on training said people, or wasting possible resources to be used in finishing this to go and train them... Yeah, definately no draft.

very well said and i completly agree, there is progress being made but the news doesn't want to sell that side of it unfortunatly, bad for ratings i guess. But as you said noone in the service wants a bunch of people that don't want to be there, i know i certianly don't.

The Democrats running for president want our country out of the war in Iraq, and both Hillary and Barack have said that they will make a timetable to bring our troops home from Iraq. Our Democratic controlled House and Senate have tried twice to pass a timetable to get our troops home from Iraq but Bush vetoed the bill both times. It is a fair and realistic question. We can not stay at war forever without a draft. Get real, people. The Democrats will bring our troops home from Iraq, not the Republicans.

I agree with everything you both said! The media reports what they think will get people stired up. If the headline is "hundreds killed today in bombing" more people will watch opposed to "great progress being made".

i would rather we fight the terrorists in the middle east then here on our soil. bailing out of irag would be a gigantic mistake. it would certainly send the wrong message to our ememies.

all the talk of bailing shows how weak our citizens have become.

Isn't this a duplicate thread? Well, I will give the same reply I gave on the other thread.

Ever since the First Gulf War (1990), hardly a year goes by where we aren't inundated by rumors of re-instatement of a military draft. No, it will not happen no matter which party wins the presidency.

You do know that not wanting a time table and drafting are 2 different things. They are not gonna draft. In fact most military departments are downsizing. When I was looking into being an engineer for the airforce the recruiter told me that they are not hiring as much (but i should still get in if i wanted it as engineers are needed badly) because by 2015 they had to have like 14,000 less people.

Yup, just like they brought them home from Kosovo? huh Jot this one down in your notebook of things to believe: A Democrat will not bring the troops out of Iraq. I will remind you of this two years from now. Time table? If they REALLY have a timetable don't you think we would have heard it by now? It is akin to Castro promising a chicken in every pot. Politicians tell you what you want to hear but common sense needs to rule the day.

the democrats will not do anything that a non-nutbag republican wouldn't do. there will be no draft, there are far too many people who don't support this war as is. i think a draft would just push this nation into a very dangerous place for our government
