Why in the heck would you post here if you aren't interested in politics? Considering this whole forum is pretty much strictly that makes the reason why that person posted in the first place pointless. Mono has a point.

Anyways, no, I do not think a foreign-born naturalized US citizen should be allowed to run for President. It has good political thriller idea behind it though should anyone want to write a good novel, if someone hasn't already!

The naturalized US citizen goes to the best schools, becomes a US citizens, rises in the ranks in Washington and then runs for President. Becomes President and then it turns out he is really a loyalist to some enemy country of the US that wants to bring it down, best way through a popular President from the inside.

Dum dum dummmmmmm.....

:D

A buddy of mine was explaining that exact thought the other day hah.. good call!

I'm a naturalized citizen and that scenario could happen with a natural born citizen also.If you take the time to take that test and swear loyalty to this country then you deserve a chance to run it.

The pros and cons need to just be weighed..
There are tons of different ways to look at this topic..

Well, it's hard to think of that question without thinking of Arnold. Living here in Cal, the idea that he could become prez scares the heck out of me.

I don't think there is any real chance of that happening. Right now, they can't even get an energy bill through Congress. It's a tall order to amend the constitution, especially in this day and age. I think it's 3/4ths of congress and 3/4ths of the states legislature by a majority vote.

If Arnold is waiting in the wings, the dem controlled states are not going to go for it. It's pretty sad that someone so unqualified could be prez just because he's a star. Also, the fact that he's a son of a Nazi should answer the question. NO! We should not allow it.

Think 50 years in the future, when hispanics will be the majority in the south west. A Mexican born person could easily become President and really be more loyal to Mexico than the U.S.

Ok...

Looking at another opinion...

A great number of immigrants wish to become an American citizen based on our political process and our freedoms.

Some are brought by their families at a very young age...and had no choice.

Many do find great passion towards a life free of cruel government persecution and follow are country's constitution as their own.

Often times I think foriegn born citizens know more about our country's dealings than its own US born citizens...
esp. with someone's earlier post "im not interested in politics"

I say it should be changed to allow foriegn born citizens to become elected...and should be based on residency and how long they have been a citizen, also based upon experience, and ability (which shouldn't be anything NEW)....but we are apparently lacking with our current presidentlaugh

See, that's the whole problem with the US now. People born here don't care about the political process, unless it affects their pocket book. But foreign born people wanting to be Americans have to go through nasty courses on everything a normal American SHOULD know. I swear, about 60% of all Americans would fail a simple citizenship test.

Only 17 changes have been made to the constitution lets not make 18. Stick to weightlifting Arnold.

Only 60% fail? I think it's actually much higher than that.

Yeah, you have a point about that. Many immigrants do appreciate this country more than many of us born here. But I still think it's not possible to know.

My ex-wife is from El Salvador and became a citizen and she loves this country ( and is going to vote for Hillary lol) but I know her heart is always going to be in El Salvador.

Sometimes you see kids born here that seem to have more loyalty to their family's roots. I guess living in Cal I see that more. But many Mexican people really believe that Cal, Texas, NM, Arizona, really belong to them.

I think that would be the biggest threat. I'm just trying to be realistic. Obviously, I know there are millions of Mexican American's who love this country. I don't want to sound like I'm dissing them. I just see that as a potential threat to what is best for our country.

I was saying 60% as a guess, but I would prolly say its higher. But most people that have gone to college and actually learned, instead of just drinking, could pass with the minimum score. But its sad how this country is deteriorating, but sh1t happens right?

I think this threat is very unrealistic

By the time such citizen had to work up a name for themselves...excell in school, serve their country, gather enough support and experience, etc the threat levels would be pretty slim by the time campaigning even came around. Believe it or not...becoming president or running for president is hard work!!!

The more rational of threats of a possible "inside job" already exist! i.e. Bush's family with their hands tied in the oil cookie jar.

I know there has to be such a political thriller out there with the premise I wrote in a post earlier in this topic. I am going to go look.

Same thing with the Separation of Church and State, but I will end there cause that would severely hijack the topic.

Couldn't find a book on the subject, though I know someone had to of written such a thriller before. If not, I'm copyrighting that intellectual property...haha.

Was she tied up, I hadn't heard that. Yeah well at least our prez was on the receiving end of the **ow job! Unlike Bush who had that male hooker visiting the WH after hours on several occassions.

You may be right Monosy, it would be not be that high a probability. But I am not really talking about out and out treason. More of a bias of policy decisions that could have a big impact on our country.

Trust me, I'm not anti-hispanic, but when you live here, and you go to parts of LA, it's like your going to another country already.

Let's put it this way, if they did ever change it, I think it should be grandfathered in. Say anyone born after 1990. And then they would have to have lived in the country for 40 years from time of a young child. Something like that.
