I hope they not gonna blame the Indian Government, as all 22 crew members were Indian ....yeah ! It has been known for that to happen , sometimes .... especially in Canada :flag_ca:...

There was a us captain in charge of the ship at the time because the regular captain had never traveled to the port before

Wether or not the tax payers ( the government) pays the bill on this one should be discussed after the investigation of what exactly happened. If it was the fault of the ship owner maybe they should cover some of the cost.. but regardless of that outcome many people will be out of a job till ships start moving thru that port again. I think their pay should continue some how..

Of course taxpayers will foot the bill. Government builds infrastructure, roads, bridges, dams, etc.. And federal and state transportation administrations will investigate the cause and levy fines where appropriate. The courts will also be involved, and of course the shipping company's insurance carrier.

Not to mention as one of the countries largest ports its of national intrest to get it open. As long as that bridge is in the way no ships can get in or out

What about the ship that crashed in to the baltimore bridge early this morning (GMT)

Wow, I would have thought the ship would have taken more damage, but instead the bridge just collapsed...

The emergency services were searching for survivors when I had to leave for work (I start work at 9am now instead of 12pm) so missed a lot of it...

It was a bad tragedy and no politics should be played.. As Its become now a habit..

This.

Harbor pilots ALWAYS captain large ships in and out of major ports.

They were saying on tv news that this bridge built in the 1970s had no collision protection against this type of accident as this was not a regulation requirement at the time, and many more bridges built in the 1970s in the USA are the same, so there is now talk of this protection being retrofitted around all these bridges avoiding the catastrophic results already experienced on this bridge and the tragic loss of life.

Could the collapse of the Baltimore bridge be avoided?
