a lot of that isn't even algebra laugh

The questions I asked are all basic/pre algebra. What makes it algebra, is the process you have to follow in order to solve the problem, not the fact that there is basic addition and multiplication involved.

(5+2)(5+2)=
(25+10)(10+4)=
(35)(14)=
490

ok, so it's multiply? all the others equal 490, the first one still makes 49.

No?

I like maths, it just doesn't like me

I'm under the impression that algebra involves solving for a symbol/variable.

I would imagine that (35)(14) for instance, is just basic arithmetic, because it is only simple multiplication.

lol, Iknow how you feel.

I can not remember it well enough to tell you the process order, but I will bet you someone else here can, lol.

well you do everything inside parenthesis first, then square roots, then multiply/divide, then add or subtract

if that's the order you are talking about

(35)(10) is basic arithmatic, yes, but in this case (35)(10) was part of an entire other equation, and the solving of that equation is what makes it Algebra. Yes in Algebra you figure things out using different variables, but it is also the process in which you apply those variables. In the end, all mathematics breaks down to basic arithmatic.

well what I'm saying is that your little FOIL problem is just basic math

who else remembers FOIL?

damn I feel nerdy now laugh

I think I put the order of operations in the wrong order, oh well.

Well, actually I just shouldn't have mentioned parenthesis, they make it complicated laugh

exponents/roots
multiply/divide
add/subtract

that's the order

omg! I was able to get thru all except #3, and then the first question changed and I can't remember anymore than the simple equations. My brain is about to explode lol

I've forgotten most of the math in my life, but I used to be really good at it sad

I can still do prealgebra or basic algebra, but not much else

I am curious to see how many people can (assuming they are willing t do so) answer these next five questions. They are basic algebra equations that can be found in most if not all highschool algebra books.

1. (5+2) x (5+2) =

2. 2(5+2) x (5+2) =

3. 21B + 21A = -2B - 20A (SIMPLIFY DOWN)

4. A + B + C = 21 IF A IS EQUAL TO 7 AND B IS EQUAL TO 10, WHAT IS C?

FOR THE LAST QUESTION, X=57

3X + 2X = 285 true or false

Oooh. I was great at Math in school.

Let's see :)

1. (5+2) x (5+2) = 7 x 7 = 49

2. 2(5+2) x (5+2) = 2(7) x 7 = 14 x 7 = 98

3. 21B + 21A = -2B - 20A
21B + 2B = -20A - 21A
23B = -41A
God where did I get lost on this one?! I don't see where I can simplify [sobs]

4. A + B + C = 21 IF A IS EQUAL TO 7 AND B IS EQUAL TO 10, WHAT IS C?
7 + 10 + C = 21
C = 4

FOR THE LAST QUESTION, X=57

3X + 2X = 285 true or false
3(57) = 171
2(57) = 114
171 + 114 = 285
True
