i know 1+(-1)=0 but never seen 1+1=0

I'd guess indices are what they call exponents, I've never heard them called that before though. I learned PEMDAS
instead of brackets we called them parantheses, then exponents, multiplication/division, addition/subtraction. |

I am curious to see how many people can (assuming they are willing t do so) answer these next five questions. They are basic algebra equations that can be found in most if not all highschool algebra books. 1. (5+2) x (5+2) = 2. 2(5+2) x (5+2) = 3. 21B + 21A = -2B - 20A (SIMPLIFY DOWN) 4. A + B + C = 21 IF A IS EQUAL TO 7 AND B IS EQUAL TO 10, WHAT IS C? FOR THE LAST QUESTION, X=57 3X + 2X = 285 true or false I'm curious do you have a final in math coming up? |

yeah brackets function a little differently than parentheses but i dont quite know how to explain it I could be wrong but I believe brackets indicate a real number versus an unreal number. now don't ask me the differance, lol cause I never DID learn... |

This posting was in response to the fact that I got aggravated earlier and posted about how the united states needs to spend more on education, cause kids were graduating highschool unablto read or do basic algebra. So I put this up as a test to see who could do the very basic algebra (and promptly showed my ignorance by mistyping the third equation by accident, lmao) |

Sometimes brackets like [] are used in algebra to make the equation more clear instead of nesting a bunch of parentheses. The other time I've seen them is in linear algebra to indicate a matrix. I never took linear algebra, I stopped taking math at Calculus 2. I had a suite mate in college who was a physics and biochem double major so he had to take linear algebra and discrete mathematics. He was a drunk pothead but ended up with a 3.9 and was a hilarious kid.
