I had an awesome evening for News Years while the kids were at their dads, I went to a UNR game, met a friend for dinner, I went to the movies alone Charlie Wilson well done political movie that says a lot. WEnt Ice skating till 11, then watched the big fire work show. Downtown was packed lots of people. I don't know that anyone said Happy New Year, except for a high five from someone.

I felt happy that I conquered the evening alone.... Atlas I awake this morning mad as hell that my kids didn't call, and I'm alone. When they get here tonight should I just pretend that its all fine that they didn't care enough to call?

I called them but there dad said they went to sleep.
PS I still haven't heard from them today they are 12, 14 1nd 16

I don't know

Well, they are kids. And if they are normally with you, they probably didn't think about calling. I wouldn't be too hard on them for that.

yeah, I think I just hope I raised them to be considerate, I would have had them call their Dad.. Ya know.. I actually feel like calling him a few choice words.

I disagree. I don't think they were inconsiderate for not calling. You raised them right so let it go. My children didn't call me either and I never thought another thing about it.

I will probably mention I called them last night and missed talking to them. I was just wondering, our family had a tradition to call at New Years no matter where we were. Something i thought my family did right. Especially now with all the cell phones..LOL

Thanks everyone.

i would say neither

do not complain

but let them know you missed them

and let them know you are sorry that you waited so long to call them

and did not realize that they would be in bed so early on

new years eve

turn it into a positive for them

and it may get you a little more consideration in the future

I didn't get a phone call after midnight, but did today. I think the last thing they want to do is talk to mom (if they are teens) when they feel independent. Just let them know you were worried. I did. At least I got the 'I'm sorry.' Kids..gotta love em and they sometimes make you crazy..lol.
Happy New Year!

Hey all I got was a phone call at 2am begging me to come and pull my son out of a ditch!!
I don't think you should be to hard on them, when they become teens like that they start pulling away. You have to give them their space...just wait it gets even better

I know it's hard to believe, but maybe they figured you deserved the nite out and maybe would like to enjoy it without hearing from them. I was a considerate teen and if my step mom would have gone out, I wouldn't have called her just so she could have some "her" time. I don't know if that makes sense.

But I agree with the other poster.. Just let them know that you really did have a great time, but also missed them very much. They are teens so they probably didn't do it to "spite" you or anything, they can also be pretty self absorbed while needing space. So yea, just make it more of a positive that you missed them and were really hoping you could have heard about their nite sooner.

Did they ever?

One of the big Greek philosophers (Herodotus?) went on a written tirade centuries ago decrying their manners, their hair, everything.

I say let kids be kids.

well if you do not let them know that you are unhappy with their behavior or that they have done something wrong in your eyes they will continue to behave in that manor. you do not have to kick butt, just explain the situation, then in the future they will remember their teachings,

kids will be kids and grow up the way you allow them to. parents need to take an active role in their children and as they transition into young adults.
