now.. if we are talking about the possibility of non Terran races. well, we have not been invaded or enslaved. so I'm not concerned.. LOL though, I might change my mind, if they abduct me and do experiments ;-) |

I believe there are people that would still welcome and protect me .. some years back, I was in california and I guess took the wrong exit into inglewood, pulled into a service station to check my map. not really paying attention to anything else. I seen a shadow and looked up, and there was three big guys leaning against my car . not doing anything , just leaning against it looking away.. so I rolled down my window to ask what was going on. the guy closest to me answered, and said that he noticed I was from oregon and white. I then asked if that was a problem.. he replied YES, then explained there was bad feelings in the neighbor hood twards whites. because of a shooting. and they were there to make sure nothing happened to me. he then gave me directions to get me on the correct free way, and suggested I left the area as soon as possible. if I would have reacted out of fear about those 3 guy's .. I may have found my self in a very bad situation. but instead, I was directed to safety. |

There's a quote that I love, by Mark Twain. "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” I think a lot of us were raised with stereotypes about foreign people. The media contributes a lot to this. But if we would spend time with these people, and keep an open mind, we'd likely realize that they aren't as we had originally thought. I never read mark twain, but he sounds like a very very wise person.. People are clannish by nature, especially when they think they are competing for limited resources. It's an "us vs them" thing. I remember when Hmong folks, (good people BTW), came here after the Viet Nam war. Folks were, "they do" this, "they" do that, "they" don't know whatever. Some still feel that way. Having contact with "other" cultures can be a learning experience. Some folks just don't want to learn, and anything new scares them. I FEEL like this is the real underlying cause of xenophobia, a fear of the unknown... Not understanding foriegn/other cultures... I agree with CrystalWaters in so much that refugees/immigrants should respect and adhere to the cultures and laws of the host country... |

Yes kiwiman. A Facebook post on settling the Afghanistan refugees here has caused some Xenophobia to raise it's head. So wondering why it exists. you'll know the answer to that when they come to your place of work or anywhere you may be and blow you up with a vest bomb |
