No, it's not. It's letting attachments get in the way of who you are.
"Be yourself?" That statement of advice is very good if you know what it's really saying.
Notice how you act carefree around your friends and family. Now try that around a beautiful woman. Not so easy being yourself, huh?

It's ALL about ATTITUDE, trust me. Feel good about yourself, look your self in the mirror, ask "Who's the man?" then answer "I'm the man! I'm the man!". Go out there enjoy yourself, the enviorment, etc. Talk to her as if you already "have" her. Just focus on the moment, don't try too hard to impress her, have fun, and make her feel good.

Im sorry how is it, Ive been on myspace for years, facebook, quite a few different sites. Im not overly flirtatious...my roomate gets myspace like a month ago and some chick is flying him to where ever the heck she lives to spend the weekend with him. Am I too reserved? Too picky? Too cautious?

I would say that there is a problem with the initial approach. Something is flawed. It has been my experience that most people will at least talk to you a little. I could be wrong though.

Just approach her in a respectful manner, be you, no lies, no BS. Be "happy". Smile, say "Hi, how's it goin'?" (or something like that) and go from there.

I disagree on this one. I have met many who actually became more beautiful with age. It may have been nature, it may have been just someone taking better care of themselves. In any way, I've always enjoyed meeting people after quite a while, and getting pleasantly surprised.
