The first power cut has just hit the local area. Not me, I'm glad to say but further down the main road towards Waterfoot village. In the twenty years that I've lived here, the power has gone out several times, usually flash flooding taking out the local substation. The power is out for anything up to a day but on one memorable occasion a few years ago, workmen repairing electricity cables and substation in Rawtenstall dug into a gas main which burned out the substation. Most of the valley was without gas and electricity for a fortnight in the depths of winter. Since then, I invested in several windup lamps and camping stove run by tins of Calor gas. Let's hope they're not needed 🤞.

We lost power when it was 20* out, wrapped myself in my 5 cats
and somehow we made it through the 4 days, the local store
across the street hauled out their gas cookers and fed the
neighborhood, man there is something about hot food when
you are without..

It's nice when people help each other out .

Oohhh... that sux, both situations!
I don't have a backup heater. Well, I have an electric radiator but if there's no electricity... plus I can't really use it here as the wiring gets hot. I've had it checked at least 5 times, they cannot find anything. One time I had that heater on when the central healing was down, after half an hour even the wall socket was cooking!!
scared
I think I got close to having a fire.

a camping stove sounds like a smart idea. A fortnight without gas & light is disgusting! They should've handed out such things, including the lamps.

With the wildfires nearly reaching our house, the electric company
turned off everyone's service for about a week, so, we have since
purchased a campstove also, just to get the hot food which seems
to be the mood enhancer in these parts ;-)
