Contact dermatitis is a skin condition that can cause red, itchy, cracked, dry, or scaly skin, blisters, or a rash. Like herpes, it recurs, and while it's not an STD, when it appears in the mouth or genital area, it may be mistaken for herpes.

You don't have to have sex to get herpes. Sometimes herpes can be passed in non-sexual ways, like if a parent with a cold sore gives you a peck on the lips. Most people with oral herpes got it when they were kids. A mother can pass genital herpes to a baby during vaginal childbirth, but that's pretty rare.

Herpes simplex virus
From Wiki~
Many of those who are infected never develop symptoms. Symptoms, when they occur, may include watery blisters in the skin or mucous membranes of the mouth, lips, nose, or genitals. Lesions heal with a scab characteristic of herpetic disease. Sometimes, the viruses cause mild or atypical symptoms during outbreaks. However, they can also cause more troublesome forms of herpes simplex. As neurotropic and neuroinvasive viruses, HSV-1 and -2 persist in the body by hiding from the immune system in the cell bodies of neurons. After the initial or primary infection, some infected people experience sporadic episodes of viral reactivation or outbreaks. In an outbreak, the virus in a nerve cell becomes active and is transported via the neuron's axon to the skin, where virus replication and shedding occur and cause new sores.
HSV-1 and HSV-2 are transmitted by contact with an infected person who has reactivations of the virus. HSV-2 is periodically shed in the human genital tract, most often asymptomatically. Most sexual transmissions occur during periods of asymptomatic shedding.

The herpes simplex 1 genomes can be classified into six clades. Four of these occur in East Africa, one in East Asia and one in Europe and North America. This suggests that the virus may have originated in East Africa. The most recent common ancestor of the Eurasian strains appears to have evolved ~60,000 years ago.

Herpes simplex 2 genomes can be divided into two groups: one is globally distributed and the other is mostly limited to sub Saharan Africa. The globably distributed genotype has undergone four ancient recombinations with herpes simplex 1. It has also been reported that HSV-1 and HSV-2 can have contemporary and stable recombination events in hosts simultaneously infected with both pathogens.

The herpes viruses establish lifelong infections (thus cannot be eradicated from the body). Because the virus is a foreign pathogen, a human body's immune system as well as its specialty antigen naturally diminishes the virus.

Treatment usually involves general-purpose antiviral drugs that interfere with viral replication, reduce the physical severity of outbreak-associated lesions, and lower the chance of transmission to others. Studies of vulnerable patient populations have indicated that daily use of antivirals such as aciclovir and valaciclovir can reduce reactivation rates. The extensive use of antiherpetic drugs has led to the development of drug resistance, which in turn leads to treatment failure. Therefore, new sources of drugs are broadly investigated to defeat the problem. In January 2020, a comprehensive review article was published that demonstrated the effectiveness of natural products as promising anti-HSV drugs.
Pyrithione, a Zinc Ionophore, show antiviral activity against Herpes simplex virus.

From the CDC~
Genital herpes is common in the United States. More than one out of every six people aged 14 to 49 years have genital herpes.

If you are sexually active, you can do the following things to lower your chances of getting genital herpes:

Be in a long-term mutually monogamous relationship with a partner who is not infected with an STD (e.g., a partner who has been tested and has negative STD test results);
Using latex condoms the right way every time you have sex.

Be aware that not all herpes sores occur in areas that are covered by a latex condom. Also, herpes virus can be released (shed) from areas of the skin that do not have a visible herpes sore. For these reasons, condoms may not fully protect you from getting herpes.

If you are in a relationship with a person known to have genital herpes, you can lower your risk of getting genital herpes if:

Your partner takes an anti-herpes medication every day. This is something your partner should discuss with his or her doctor.
You avoid having vaginal, ****, or oral sex when your partner has herpes symptoms (i.e., when your partner is having an outbreak).

Genital herpes can cause painful genital sores and can be severe in people with suppressed immune systems.

If you touch your sores or the fluids from the sores, you may transfer herpes to another part of your body, such as your eyes. Do not touch the sores or fluids to avoid spreading herpes to another part of your body. If you do touch the sores or fluids, immediately wash your hands thoroughly to help avoid spreading your infection.

Every two years I am tested, whether sexually active or not.
Some results show NEG while others show thresholds.
Some require examination by a medical doctor.
The test results are on myhealtEvet account and are accessible anytime/anywhere with my password.

Which means, If the subject comes up, I can show my clean test results.
As of last year's test, I have no STDs.

If you haven't been tested within the last two years, ya might want to, even if you're not sexually active.

It also helps to know the symptoms:

How do I know if I have bacterial vaginosis?

Many women with BV do not have symptoms. If you do have symptoms, you may notice:

* A thin white or gray vaginal discharge;
* Pain, itching, or burning in the vagina;
* A strong fish-like odor, especially after sex;
* Burning when urinating;
* Itching around the outside of the vagina.

How do I know if I have chlamydia?

Most people who have chlamydia have no symptoms. If you do have symptoms, they may not appear until several weeks after you have sex with an infected partner. Even when chlamydia causes no symptoms, it can damage your reproductive system.

Women with symptoms may notice

* An abnormal vaginal discharge;
* A burning sensation when urinating.

Symptoms in men can include

* A discharge from their penis;
* A burning sensation when urinating;
* Pain and swelling in one or both testicles (although this is less common).

Men and women can also get infected with chlamydia in their rectum. This happens either by having receptive **** sex, or by spread from another infected site (such as the vagina). While these infections often cause no symptoms, they can cause

* Rectal pain;
* Discharge;
* Bleeding.

You should be examined by your doctor if you notice any of these symptoms or if your partner has an STD or symptoms of an STD. STD symptoms can include an unusual sore, a smelly discharge, burning when urinating, or bleeding between periods.

How do I know if I have gonorrhea?

Some men with gonorrhea may have no symptoms at all. However, men who do have symptoms, may have:

* A burning sensation when urinating;
* A white, yellow, or green discharge from the penis;
* Painful or swollen testicles (although this is less common).

Most women with gonorrhea do not have any symptoms. Even when a woman has symptoms, they are often mild and can be mistaken for a bladder or vaginal infection. Women with gonorrhea are at risk of developing serious complications from the infection, even if they don’t have any symptoms.
Symptoms in women can include:

* Painful or burning sensation when urinating;
* Increased vaginal discharge;
* Vaginal bleeding between periods.

Rectal infections may either cause no symptoms or cause symptoms in both men and women that may include:

* Discharge;
* **** itching;
* Soreness;
* Bleeding;
* Painful bowel movements.

You should be examined by your doctor if you notice any of these symptoms or if your partner has an STD or symptoms of an STD, such as an unusual sore, a smelly discharge, burning when urinating, or bleeding between periods.

How do I know if I have genital herpes?

Most people who have genital herpes have no symptoms, or have very mild symptoms. You may not notice mild symptoms or you may mistake them for another skin condition, such as a pimple or ingrown hair. Because of this, most people who have herpes do not know it.

Herpes sores usually appear as one or more blisters on or around the genitals, rectum or mouth. The blisters break and leave painful sores that may take a week or more to heal. These symptoms are sometimes called “having an outbreak.” The first time someone has an outbreak they may also have flu-like symptoms such as fever, body aches, or swollen glands.

People who experience an initial outbreak of herpes can have repeated outbreaks, especially if they are infected with HSV-2. Repeat outbreaks are usually shorter and less severe than the first outbreak. Although the infection stays in the body for the rest of your life, the number of outbreaks may decrease over time.

You should be examined by your doctor if you notice any of these symptoms or if your partner has an STD or symptoms of an STD. STD symptoms can include an unusual sore, a smelly genital discharge, burning when urinating, or (for women) bleeding between periods.

From WebMd ~
First Stage: Acute HIV Infection Symptoms

Most people don't know right away when they've been infected with HIV. But they may have symptoms within 2 to 6 weeks after they’ve gotten the virus. This is when your body's immune system puts up a fight. It's called acute retroviral syndrome or primary HIV infection.

The symptoms are similar to those of other viral illnesses, and they're often compared to the flu. They typically last a week or two and then go away. Early signs of HIV include:

* Headache
* Fatigue
* Aching muscles
* Sore throat
* Swollen lymph nodes
* A red rash that doesn't itch, usually on your torso
* Fever
Third Stage: AIDS Symptoms
If you didn't know earlier that you were infected with HIV, you may realize it after you have some of these symptoms:

* Being tired all the time
* Swollen lymph nodes in your neck or groin
* Fever that lasts more than 10 days
* Night sweats
* Weight loss with no obvious reason
* Purplish spots on your skin that don't go away
* Shortness of breath
* Severe, long-lasting diarrhea
* Yeast infections in your mouth, throat, or vagina
* Bruises or bleeding you can't explain

Back to the CDC List~
How do I know if I have HPV?

There is no test to find out a person’s “HPV status.” Also, there is no approved HPV test to find HPV in the mouth or throat.

There are HPV tests that can be used to screen for cervical cancer. These tests are only recommended for screening in women aged 30 years and older. HPV tests are not recommended to screen men, adolescents, or women under the age of 30 years.

Most people with HPV do not know they are infected and never develop symptoms or health problems from it. Some people find out they have HPV when they get genital warts. Women may find out they have HPV when they get an abnormal Pap test result (during cervical cancer screening). Others may only find out once they’ve developed more serious problems from HPV, such as cancers.

How do I know if I have PID?

There are no tests for PID. A diagnosis is usually based on a combination of your medical history, physical exam, and other test results. You may not realize you have PID because your symptoms may be mild, or you may not experience any symptoms. However, if you do have symptoms, you may notice

* Pain in your lower abdomen;
* Fever;
* An unusual discharge with a bad odor from your vagina;
* Pain and/or bleeding when you have sex;
* Burning sensation when you urinate; or
* Bleeding between periods.

You should

* Be examined by your doctor if you notice any of these symptoms;
* Promptly see a doctor if you think you or your sex partner(s) have or were exposed to an STD;
* Promptly see a doctor if you have any genital symptoms such as an unusual sore, a smelly discharge, burning when peeing, or bleeding between periods;
* Get a test for chlamydia every year if you are sexually active and younger than 25 years of age.
* Have an honest and open talk with your health care provider if you are sexually active and ask whether you should be tested for other STDs.

What are the signs and symptoms of syphilis?

Symptoms of syphilis in adults vary by stage:
Primary Stage

During the first (primary) stage of syphilis, you may notice a single sore or multiple sores. The sore is the location where syphilis entered your body. Sores are usually (but not always) firm, round, and painless. Because the sore is painless, it can easily go unnoticed. The sore usually lasts 3 to 6 weeks and heals regardless of whether or not you receive treatment. Even after the sore goes away, you must still receive treatment. This will stop your infection from moving to the secondary stage.

Secondary Stage

During the secondary stage, you may have skin rashes and/or mucous membrane lesions. Mucous membrane lesions are sores in your mouth, vagina, or anus. This stage usually starts with a rash on one or more areas of your body. The rash can show up when your primary sore is healing or several weeks after the sore has healed. The rash can look like rough, red, or reddish brown spots on the palms of your hands and/or the bottoms of your feet. The rash usually won’t itch and it is sometimes so faint that you won’t notice it. Other symptoms you may have can include fever, swollen lymph glands, sore throat, patchy hair loss, headaches, weight loss, muscle aches, and fatigue (feeling very tired). The symptoms from this stage will go away whether or not you receive treatment. Without the right treatment, your infection will move to the latent and possibly tertiary stages of syphilis.
syphilis rash on back

Latent Stage

The latent stage of syphilis is a period of time when there are no visible signs or symptoms of syphilis. If you do not receive treatment, you can continue to have syphilis in your body for years without any signs or symptoms.

Tertiary Stage

Most people with untreated syphilis do not develop tertiary syphilis. However, when it does happen it can affect many different organ systems. These include the heart and blood vessels, and the brain and nervous system. Tertiary syphilis is very serious and would occur 10–30 years after your infection began. In tertiary syphilis, the disease damages your internal organs and can result in death.

Neurosyphilis and Ocular Syphilis

Without treatment, syphilis can spread to the brain and nervous system (neurosyphilis) or to the eye (ocular syphilis). This can happen during any of the stages described above.

Symptoms of neurosyphilis include

* severe headache;
* difficulty coordinating muscle movements;
* paralysis (not able to move certain parts of your body);
* numbness; and
* dementia (mental disorder).

Symptoms of ocular syphilis include changes in your vision and even blindness.

What are the signs and symptoms of trichomoniasis(Trick)?

About 70% of infected people do not have any signs or symptoms. When trichomoniasis does cause symptoms, they can range from mild irritation to severe inflammation. Some people with symptoms get them within 5 to 28 days after being infected. Others do not develop symptoms until much later. Symptoms can come and go.

Men with trichomoniasis may notice:

* Itching or irritation inside the penis;
* Burning after urination or ejaculation;
* Discharge from the penis.

Women with trichomoniasis may notice:

* Itching, burning, redness or soreness of the genitals;
* Discomfort with urination;
* A change in their vaginal discharge (i.e., thin discharge or increased volume) that can be clear, white, yellowish, or greenish with an unusual fishy smell.

Having trichomoniasis can make it feel unpleasant to have sex. Without treatment, the infection can last for months or even years.

A big YES on the knowledge!

Since I'm a diabetic with CHF I see a doctor every month and test for STDs about every 3 months.

Due to much luck and a lot of latex I'VE NEVER HAD any type of STD!

If you suspect you may have something don't be shy about going to a doctor.
