I feel I made the right decision today when I turned down the assistant manager position at the store. Even though I have full confidence in my ability to do the job, I'm not willing to give up my schedule or sacrifice my freedom to have more money and a title. The position would mean working nights and would require me to be available to work any shift that needed to be covered. With as many times as we've been short staffed, I would end up kissing goodbye any little weekend excursions. Not happening, haha.
It also feels great to make my decision according to my desires and goals, rather than from self defeating feelings like I've had in the past. |

I realised it's better to be happy and have less or little money than working a chit job for more money. It's not worth the sacrifice. Enjoy your excursions! |

Apparently the Universe supports my decision as well... closing that door opened another door for me. The owner of the store approached me today to let me know she's creating a "Head Cashier" position/title and offered it to me. I will still have my same schedule as the opener, a little more responsibility and recognition.... and get a week's paid vacation. She'll go over more of the details in a couple weeks after she works it out on paper. Hopefully it will mean another raise, haha, but just having the recognition and the week's paid vacation is fine with me. WooHoo!!! Oh... OT.... Fantastic and excited, haha. |

Good for you River, your decision to chose you over a little money was the same I came to many years ago when I used to work for other people. I don't think you'll regret it. Also I of course don't know your situation but if you were working at night could it put you in danger? Would want to think of that

If I were working alone at night, it could put me at a higher risk of being in danger. Although I work every morning by myself and get to work when it's dark, at 5am. My main issue with night is that I'm ready for bed at 9pm, usually falling asleep on my rocking chair at 8pm, lol. I wouldn't function as well as night and that would drive me nuts. I'm an early riser and function better during the day. |
