I've never wanted to use a pick up line but is that actually what's required?

I don’t mind if a guy says “Hi” to me as long as it sounds gentle enough.

Sure you can say "hi" but don't expect anything to come from that.
If you really have an interest in someone then you have to come up with a bit more than 'hi' and show that you have an interest.
That goes for online as well as real life.

Really? What kind of response are women wanting? Those one liners were real?!

What gets my attention is when someone actually reads my profile and says something thing connected to it.

Maybe put just a little more thought into it?

How about reading the woman's profile, and seeing something that you are also interested in, commenting on THAT.

Like..say..you see she is interested in vintage electronics (or whatever), and you are also....start a chat about that..

Myself I would rather have a e-mail where they can hold a conversation..

If all one sends another is just ~~~ HI ~~~ the only response to that is Hi...back. That is if they even say that back.

Sure say hi, hello or how are you... but always look to see something on their profile to go off of.. If nothing on the profile, ask what their favorite place to go eat at, where they say they live..

If all you say is "hi",
it's very unlikely, you'll get
any kind of response.

The ladies on here have good responses. Listen to that.

Required for what?
A simple email response?
A continuing online conversation?
Someone to pay attention and see you as an online friend?
Someone to pay attention and possibly meet you?
Someone to pay attention and possibly meet you for a date?
Someone to possibly meet you for a one time sexual encounter?
Someone to pay attention and possibly meet you for a date and potential ongoing love interest?
Tons of other possibilities.

All of those have different "requirements."
There are even some scenarios or "options" where all you really need to do is show up and say "hi," and you don't have to say anything again.

Im an old fashion gal. I rather have a hello, your name and how are you. Then a compliment, fake line or a long story. Just me
