All dogs are good. Whatever dog you like is a good dog.

Yup, there's that. And ya don't have to bend over to scratch em behind the ears.

I grew up in a family with larger dogs, so that is what I'm used to.

I would even suggest a Rottweiler...you won't find a better dog. Only downside, takes a little time to train...they're stubborn because they're smart and some still have the cattle herding instinct and will want to put a shoulder on you to herd you! Also they're house dogs, go a little crazy if left alone outside!

At one time my sister was in 4H and the Seeing Eye dog project. We had a German Shepard dog live with us. He wasn't our dog. He was with us to learn basic training skills so he could eventually live with a blind person. It was hard to let him go.

I've had good experiences with German shepherds, mixed breeds, and cattle dogs. Not good experiences with Lhasa Apso breed dogs.

I prefer medium size dogs. I love cocker spaniels, springer spaniels :) Happy dogs and can be trained well, and easy to keep in a home.
Rottweilers or German Shepherd, no way, never! Same for American Staffordshire. Creepy creatures.

I did grow up with larger dogs, one seriously large like the Hound of the Baskervilles, haha, but those were proper guard dogs. Trained and kept as such. Not my cup of tea, it was my dad's.

Small dogs, nah. Yappie chittie things. They're often nasty, have a temper. Larger dogs tend to be far more gentler in general. Small dogs often yap a lot, bark when they see a fly. Quite a lot around in the neighbourhood. They drive you -as a neighbour- up the wall with their yapping whereas you seldom hear the larger dogs. Only when something is amiss.

like the hunting breeds labs, spaniels but a spaniel can be a handful with all their energy.

My sister has always had dogs with a whole lot of energy - cattledogs. Years ago, I'd go to my sister's house and take her dog over to the park for a little while my sister was at work. The dog was so,so happy. My sister liked it. Hard to believe how happy a dog can be.
