Topic: Taking antidepressants.. pros and cons | |
---|---|
"I want what I want, when I want it and I want it all right now" leads to depression. Not the only reason... Loss of a spouse, or physical abilities can lead to that as well.. Of course, looking back, I believe I was clinically depressed even as a kid.. I stayed in my room, to myself, most of the time....and read... |

I've worked in I a lot of long term care homes and one of the first things nurses do is get a Dr's order for antidepressants. "Oh they're depressed"hell yea wouldn't you be ? Told you have to live the rest of your life in a care home. And instead of addressing the issue they will just keep increasing the dosage or switch to another , so now you have just another geriatric zoombie walking or wheeling around. And they try and get them to participate in lame-*** things they have NO interest it, and then want to medicate them when they *don't* participate, or tell them they need to "be more social"... Here's an idea, moron...how about YOU get plucked out of your home, away from everything you know and love and enjoy, and get put in an institutional setting against your will...let's see how well YOU like it.... |

Not the only reason...
Loss of a spouse, or physical abilities can lead to that as well.. I agree but if considering the population as a whole of those seeking anti-depressants, most of them are depressed because they don't get something they want when they want it or other people fail to live up to their expectations. I once read on a suicide prevention forum about a guy that wanted to commit suicide because his car wouldn't run. We are taught not to minimize anyone's cries for suicide no matter how insignificant. Problem is, people have become pussified and cry for antidepressants when all they need to do is grow a pair. |

Well, *I* haven't taken any as of yet..
Have been considering CBD oil/ tincture...someone said that would help, but..it's be $60-$70 a month, and, for me, that's not cheap.... At least insurance would cover antidepressants. |

Personally, I don't really care who takes antidepressants.
I don't need them because I'm not depressed anymore. All I'm saying is most people that take them don't really need them. They merely need to get a handle on themselves, their emotions and their expectations. Ya don't usually need drugs to do that. |

Not dissing anyone in here that's on antidepressants, whatever works. I was on Zoloft when I left my ex and yes they did help me,but after about 3 months , the Dr wanted to increase my dosage I said no thanks ( I didn't like the "flatline" effect) and started running 3.5 miles every morning to work, worked wonders for me ,mentally and physically.

Hey, I love bluegrass.
I genuinely am sorry, that your not happy I'm quite aware that it's not 1 size fits all, and that whatever works for me, may not work for somebody else. And I don't recollect suggesting otherwise. If I ever find what works for me, I'll let you know. I mean it could work for you. And vice versa, if you find what works for you, then please, let me know, I'll give it a go. |

As a nurse, I can only warn of them. Together with antibiotics, they have the most nasty side effects and contraindicatons. These conditions have a cause, which needs to be tackled. Not the symptoms. And I speak not only as a nurse, but as someone, who is carrying around some anxiety disorder. Mine is situtational (not biological)...and can't be "addressed" in any real, tangible way since the situation is what it is.... I'm not interested in judgey people with opinions based on their *own* expereinces (which are not the same for everyonbe), or what worked for their neighbor's sister's co-worker... Not trying to judge anyone or giving general rules. But my personal opinion is, taking these pills only numbs the symptoms. There is more to be done. And work experience is important. I seen many cases, taking those pills did not work, as side effects caused more and even new concerns. I would think as a nurse you would know the good and bad of taking antidepressants, side effects, adverse reactions......if it is prescribed for depression why would one of the side effects be that it can cause suicidal thoughts? Less meds are best why finance the pharmaceutical companies with their wonder drugs. The side effect of suicidal thoughts? It might sound weird, but as far as I know, these thoughts kick in, when you forget to take your prescribed dose And yeah. Pharma companies rake in billions once again |

If you are a nurse than you would be familiar with the package insert that is included with prescribed read one of those for antidepressants , yea , one of the side effects listed (among a list of other effects ) is suicidal thoughts and a person just can't stop cold turkey taking antidepressants they have to taper off.

I have access to leaflets, as well as a book called MIMS. Which is like a register of all meds on the market. It is updated once a month. It is kinda scary reading about them side effects |

I took Lisinipril (sp?) for blood pressuer some years back.
One evening, while making dinner..my tongue started to swell, then, as i was pulling into the ER parking lot, my throat started. They stuck IV's in me of stuff, it subsided.. They said had I been 15-20 minutes later..I'd have had serious trouble breathing.. But they asked what I had eaten (nothing out of thre norm, matter of fact, hadn't left the house that day)..and what meds I took.. Turns out, something like .01% of people who have been taking Lisinipril develop this (some get the dry cough). Lucky me. No one had mentioned this possibilty to me..certainly not the doctor that put me on it. My point? All meds have side effects.....it's just the luck of the draw as to which on (if any) you'll get.. P.S. I read the fine print on any nedication i am prescribd now. |

I stopped anti depressants without tapering off, and didn't notice a thing.
Anti psychotics, now they're a different story |

'the bed, complete with a dummy patient, will be chased by a giant syringe. There will also be an ECT machine offering free "treatments" to the general public. Thank you
You know there are other words, that I believe would better describe what these 'professionals' do. Sounds Impressive that, doesn't it? 'professional B.S. artist' , not quite so grand, huh? And those words would be oppression and brainwashing. In any other walk of life, these would be the words we would use. Or psychological abuse, coupled with physical abuse. But hey, I'm not a 'professional' |
