(KMOV.com) - A warning is being issued to parents about a new challenge for teens that is circulating Facebook, the 48-hour challenge.

It encourages teens to go missing for up to two days at a time and awards points for every social media mention while they’re missing.

Police say it is not only dangerous but could also tie them up while there are real emergencies.

Child psychiatrists say it’s never a good idea to assume your child knows better than to involve themselves.

Police say anyone caught participating in the 48-hour challenge could face charges in such an internet challenge.

First it was the Choking game (hanging themselves and filming it then releasing the noose and the longer you stayed hanging the more points), then it was taking large amounts of Robotussin to get high (like three to four bottles at a time), then there was the Tide Pods challenge, then MOMO and now this.

What the hell is wrong with kids today? I know in the 80's and 90's they blamed everything on rap music lol

Too much to be 'entertained by' and too many seeking internet 'fame, creates kids and grown ups with a sense of entitlement to always be entertained, and find new ways to have their 15 minutes of notoriety.

I'm not sure you can put blame entirely on the kids. After all it is the parents job to teach and mold these kids. If you aren't doing your job then we end up with a bunch of entitled idiots who can't tie their shoes without help.

Parents are responsible for their children until they are grown. So a parent should control what their children do. Social media has made parents job a bit more difficult . IMO

If your child needs help, get that for them. Too many seek attention from strangers on the internet.

That is a very poor way to get attention. Reminds me of that goofy family that released those balloons in Colorado, and claimed one of their kids was attached to them. Pure stupidity.

That, I believe is where the law can get involved. They tend to come down hard on games like that.

Yeah, you can put parental controls on any TV, Computer, Laptop, Cell Phone and Tablet. You can also install programs that let you see what they are doing online.

Yeah, but they don't tend to come down hard on 12 year old kids though. Unfortunately it will be their parents who are held responsible.
