Topic: A tall guy

It just dawned on me that people may have completely different ideas about what is 'tall' and what not, based on where you live.

Over here people in general are taller than in the US and UK, and if you take Scandinavian people, they can be even taller.

But even within a country there can be differences. People in the area where I was born and raised are substantially taller than in the area I lived with my ex husband.

Where I live now people are generally short, mostly shorter even than 1.70m, including men. I think women on average here are around 1.58m. To me very trying to socialize with them as I constantly have to lower myself, bend my neck, to be able to talk to them. Not handy with my neck injury, it causes me serious problems. So when one suggested we go out together to pubs I was secretly glad she never acted upon it. I like her, we get along great, but it is simply impossible for me to hang out with her in a place where we stand, like a pub, because she's so short.

For me 'tall' in a man starts at 1.85m (6 foot 1). Not really tall, but tall-ish.
Tall really starts at 1.87m-1.88m and up (6 foot 2).

In any case...
LADIES: almost all women want a tall guy, are attracted to taller men.
What do you consider to be tall?
And what do you consider not tall/too short?
Is height a deal breaker to you? When does it become a deal breaker?

MEN: Do you have preference when it comes to a woman? Want her to be (much) shorter than you? Does a woman's height affect you attraction factor?

The desire for taller men probably evolved from cave-dweller days...that a tall, large, and physically strong male was seen as a better food-getter and protector of the home.

Yes, it is an instinctual thing. I always had shorter partner, same height as me or 1 cm shorter or taller, except for my last partner who was 6 foot 1.
It makes a helluva difference to be in the arms of a man -or in his vicinity- who is taller. I never knew how much so until this happened to me a few years back with a man I met. I felt so 'home', feminine, safe, that it rendered me speechless, which is quite the feat, haha.
I never ever had that same feeling with my partners, except for the one that was taller. It's not a choice, it really is a primal instinct thing.
And it's far more than feeling protected alone. It is almost impossible to feel feminine when you're as tall or taller than a man. It makes me want to slouch, also an automatic thing. It's not nice to feel like an Amazon.
Even when the man is 6 foot 1 we are at eye level when I wear high heels. So quite logical I do not feel sexy or feminine when wearing them when the guy isn't at least 6"1' as then I'm towering over him. Nothing kills a sense of feeling attractive, sexy, and feminine as fast as that.

I cave at 6'2" on up ;-)

But then, I had an Uncle who was 5'1'
and he was the tallest man I ever knew.

Some men are much taller than their height
while conversely, some are MUCH shorter.

I really think, how they see themselves,
determines their height..both in their
eyes and in my own.

I myself am a 5' 2 3/4" short person.
Like a kid who says I am "5 and 3/4 years" old ;-)

Great topic Crystal.

I, too, prefer tall men but I'm not sure why. It may be that a previous boyfriend was 6'4" and my ex was 6' and because I was with him for over 35 yrs it was just what I was used to.

My last partner was 5'6" which is only an inch taller than me and in all honesty, his height didn't bother me but if my future partner was tall it'd certainly be a bonus.

I class a guy as being tall from 5'10" and over and being short at 5'7" and under but I guess my height comes into bearing in deciding who is tall or short. What I have found though is that each generation is getting taller. Some of the high school kids are about 6' nowadays, whereas when I was at school the tallest was around 5'9". My daughter's eldest foster child just turned 16 and he's already 5'11" and still has a bit to grow yet.

I have to say that my daughter is above average height at 6'. She tends to wear flat shoes but she will wear heels when going out. Her husband is the same height incidentally. Her biological children are also tall for their ages. Are the children of the future gonna be giants hehe?

So is it safe to say that the Scottish tend to be taller? love Assuming you yourself are Scottish?
6' for a girl is tall, phew. I am 5'10" (1.78m) and even that is sometimes a nuisance. I don't mind, I prefer tall people, but when socializing or trying to find a partner it isn't always handy, haha.
Like you say about your girl, I've also worn flats / flatter shoes a lot for the same reasons.
And yes, people get taller with each generation. Both my parents are tall, especially for their generation, my grandfather from mother's side was too.
AS for my kids, I'm glad my girl stop growing at 1.70m. She used to be a taller baby and child, but somewhere around age 15-17 it stopped. I always feared she'd get over 1.80m, I'm glad she's short. Well, relatively short, haha.
My son's 1.82m - 1.83m. Nice height :)

Yes, that is true. Nevertheless, if you're 5'10" and the man is only 5'1" hugging, cuddling, and sex become an entirely different -and very trying- experience, no matter how tall his personality and ego are, haha.
There is a mild difference between an uncle and a partner, lol.

The women I date,
are generally midgets in the height department.

And my point was, the height issue is one YOU carry around,
not the feller.
He is the height he thinks he is.

And my Uncle was a ladykiller to all the females that surrounded
him, I cannot put my finger on how he did it quite, nonetheless
his height was never an issue which is strange for a man of
that stature.

And as most men and women are disparate in height I am not sure
why you think reversing the order with the man shorter, when
intimate, makes such a difference other than in your own mind.

Had it only been in my mind I wouldn't have thought of it. It's based on experience. Obviously I'm not talking about missionary.
I would tell if you I could, it's just one word, but I doubt the PG rating would allow for even mentioning it.

No, I'm not Scottish but I was married to a Scottish guy. All his extended family were tall where the average height of the males in his family was 6'3" so I guess my daughter inherited the tall gene from her father's side of the family

As for Scottish guys it really depends on where they live. I have noticed that guys in Glasgow are short on the whole but guys from the East coast are generally taller. Have no idea why that is though.

At the other end of the scale is my mother. She's not Scottish either and she's only 4'11. I'm 5'5".

The regional thing is typical, isn't it! Now I'm not certain, but I wouldn't rule out you see it more in poor / poorer areas? I think much of it is food related, and when you're poor you haven't got access to good food. Although of course there's more to it than just that. It is interesting to see regional differences.

I think, my height translates to about 1.96m.
I'm just under 6'5".

Scores me alot of introductions to ceiling fans,
and the like.

Yay, Team Tall! laugh

Haha, that can't be a nice feeling!
I have 3 decorative T-light holders (lanterns) in the extension. I put them at such a height that they just don't bother me. I wanted them as low as possible, but they're in the pathway towards the backdoor so I had to put them a tad higher.
My ex -taller than me- always banged his head on them, haha. Now that isn't anywhere near as unpleasant as a ceiling fan, but still.

I just looked at what mandatory ceiling height is and used to be, out of curiosity:
* For new houses - 2,6 meters (!!)
This because people get taller. In 1 century an average of 14 cms! (just short of 6")

* Houses <50 yrs old: 2,4 meters

* Houses >50 yrs old: 2,2 meters

* Houses 100+ yrs old: often only 2 meters.

Go figure you being in a house like that, barely 2" underneath the ceiling!
Even I get claustrophobic in a place like that btw...
I was lucky that the person who lived here before me must have been rather tall as the worktop in the kitchen & washbasin in the bathroom are quite high. They had to renovate the loo, I had them place a higher toilet as well. I effing hate it when you sit down and keep going down and down, only to end on a kindergarten-sized toilet. Always scares the Bejesus out of me when I'm visiting people with a loo like that, hihi.

I'm 5 nothing everyone's tall to me

^^^ This! I'm 4'11 and a half

As far as most women preferring tall men, I'm not one of them. I don't consider height to be a deal breaker but being able to kiss him without standing on my tippy toes or stretching to do so is more to my liking.

That is indeed handy. I also hope my future partner is too much taller than me. Normally speaking I wouldn't mind, but I love kissing and then my neck couldn't handle it.
