Gawd....so tempting to start throwing out really oddball stuff...

I did try..during the gas crisis in 1978.
It did not look too hard, I watched as I waited in line
for 2 hours to get gas.
Finally I reached the pumps.
I jumped out of the car, removed the gas cap, put the
handle thingy in.
Then I waited.
And waited.
After about 20 minutes (I am thinking man that puppy was
empty!) the honking started, then the finger salutes.

Finally the attendant (who in those days never had to leave
their compartment) came out to assess the problem.
I shrug my shoulders, as I am doing all I can.

I sort of missed that part where you had to actually pull
the trigger on the handle thingy.

The attendant really plays it up as he fills my tank. I am
mightily embarrassed with probably 100 cars/drivers watching.

I have not tried since.
And I live in a state where tis illegal to put gas in your own car.
I am such a girl.

^^^ That's hilarious soufie and really cool that you live in a State where you don't have to. I would much rather sit in the car and have someone else do it :)

They can always tell the out-of-staters because they jump
out of their cars at gas stations here.

I'll remember that next time I'm there. I was there in 2001 for a writers convention but we didn't stop for gas.
