Force yourself out. Don't get caught up in tradition if it doesn't work for you or you can't afford it. Make the holiday your own and just do somthing from your heart. Focus on others in some way so that your' self focus cycle of depression can be broken. Everyone has somthing to offer. Even if it's just attention.
My 2 cents. |

Just find some friends on here. have confidence that you are worth getting to know and keep remembering all the positive things about yourself and readily use them. It WILL take some effort, but it is worth it. A reaping and sowing process (if you will). I met my girl here and have found others who I never met but may at one point. But it's nice to be here and grow. If you are honest and real then you can find out alot here and surround yourself with positive people to open up to. You have to use discretion, but 'done right' this website is a microcosm of all types of people and can open you up and even challenge you if you want it to. Plus it's free, so how can you lose.

Something a little different; You must always believe that Depression is time limited. Once you find something to enjoy then continue it as it makes you feel good. When you are alone look forward to that next time you get to do the things you enjoy and force yourself to just look at the good things that did happen.
For me: When I went through depressive stages I would think about how I was missing the person who I shared so much of my life with and enjoyed doing so. Without that person to relate to who was I? I then looked at the people around me to see that they too had been through down moments and survived by doing things for themselves. It truely is about taking small steps forward and giving yourself credit each time that step is a good one. When you are at your worst call a friend and go out to talk. But do so not to discuss your issues. Do so to talk about other things and enjoy the adventure of something new. I'm not saying you can't completely talk about things but don't dwell. Hopefully this advise works for someone. |

I have been suffering with depression, anxiety, and panic attacks for several years now. The anxiety and panic attacks is calmed down with medicine but I refuse to take anti-depressants. You know what always gets me through one of those "bad days"? Remember someone out there has it a lot worse than you do. Someone is ALWAYS going to be worse off. It doesn't bring me joy to know that, but that's why I volunteer to help those that are worse off. You are the one who decides when you wake up in the morning whether or not it's going to be a good day. And if something bad happens, just shrug and say "meh.." If you have it in your mindset that it's going to be a terrible, sad, lonely day, then it will be. Wake up in the morning and be like "ok, so it may be a rough day but no one is going to bring me down". It always works for me!!!

Find projects to do crafts, some good books , clean out closest.
Spend time at the nursing homes visiting the elderly. Help out at the homeless shelters. Help an elderly neighbor that needs a little help around the house. |

Surround yourself with good friends, or listen to music which lifts your spirits. Lonliness does suck, big time, but...we should always embrace being single, too. Treat yourself to a night out to look at Christmas lights on people's homes or whatever will make you feel the best.

Track down the funniest friend you have and make them dinner. If you live where there is snow, get out and play in it. Dream! Think about Santa Claus. Refuse to grow up.
