Hello, I was lucky to get a new kidney 1.5 years ago... Any other people who went or are waiting for a donor?

I am not, one of my nieces ( teenager) was hit and killed by a car crossing a street a few years. And my brother and sister in law had to make a very quick and very difficult decision as to donate her organs. Which they did

Many of her organs were immediate harvested and all went to patients who needed them.. immediately.

My brother and sister in law received a letter ( relayed by the hospital who harvested my nieces organs) from the parents of a young girl who received Brittney's eyes.

To say it was a touching letter would be a understatement.

They’re changing the rules here in the UK although not sure when it comes into force.

Previously you had to opt in to be a donor.
When it changes you will have to do the opposite and opt out.

So if you don’t opt out your organs can be used if needed.

Here in the states ( if you are of legal age) they ask you the question when you are getting your drivers license and it is stated on the license if you want to donate. You can change that when you renew your license ever 4-6 years or so.

I'm sure there are other ways it is noted but that seems to be the most common.

Sorry for your family's loss... but a very touching story for another to see...

If it had not been for organ donations we would not have my step sister that had a liver transplant 15 years ago and still going strong..

Never thought to much on being a Donor till someone saved her life and she got what she had dreamed of... Seeing her son grow up and have a family she wanted grand kids more then anything in this world....She got that all due to a donor....

Have told my kids they can have any of my organs if they are still good... It is amazing how many lives can be saved by being a donor...
