Even when I disagree, I am glad peaceful protest is a right in our country.

?? Marching for what?

I think marches are a way to show solidarity, to get out a message or a common plan/goal to the community or the world.

I think marches are a way to show solidarity, to get out a message or a common plan/goal to the community or the world. Like the million man march?...that was a march of solidarity... to try to get the word out to black men to be responsible for the kids they father and to take responsibility for their actions. So how's that going? |

I think marches are a way to show solidarity, to get out a message or a common plan/goal to the community or the world. I agree, people want attention given to issues that are important to them somehow. No one would start these threads if that weren't true. |

Oh, I care... very much so because when men are responsible and act like men they take responsibility for the upbringing of the children they bring into the world. And when that happens they also take financial responsibility.. which they should.. right? And when that happens children come off of welfare and a family structure is more in place. Which in turn, molds that child's life in a positive way. And that interests me very much.. you see.. I like kids and really can't stand when men do not take responsibility for what they created. I mean any male can father a child, that the easy part... now being a responsible father.. well that is not as easy So .. march on.. |

we are in agreement, my husband, a white male does next to NOTHING for his daughter ...
I hope they will 'march on' |

we are in agreement, my husband, a white male does next to NOTHING for his daughter ... I hope they will 'march on' I hope they do too, because the numbers are rising. And in the black community the only people who can break this cycle is.. the black men who father these children, then abandon them. 3 out of 4... being raised by Mom or Grandma is a startling number The march has been going on in one shape or form since 1995. I guess my point is that at some point you need to stop marching and talking.. and start doing Because the % is getting higher.. not lower ________________________________________________________________ CNN: More than 72 percent of children in the African-American community are born out of wedlock. That means absent fathers. ______________________________________________________________________ |

That means absent fathers. ______________________________________________________________________ there are couple false arguments here first is that being unwed is not the same as being absent, anymore than being legally married means being present. secondly, The number of children black women have has been declining, BUT faster amongst those who are wed than those who are unwed, leading to the out of wedlock rate equally as any type of irresponsibility on the males part is and thirdly, out of wedlock births since 1995, when the march was held, has been increasing across the board, however, it has increased LESS for blacks than any other group so maybe things are improving, when we look at things in context |

Really?
74%.. is 74%.. don't care how you try to spin it. Absentee fathers in the black community is no surprise to anyone. It has been a well documented problem, even by the black community.. for a very long time. And blacks have lead that category out of every other ethic group.. since the beginning of this issue bring documented. Which is decades. Constantly on top of the graft and pie charts.. constantly. My point is simple, enough of the marches.. change by example...individual responsibility. when they do that, then and only then will the numbers decrease. |

But the topic was about what has happened SINCE 1995(Million man march) at that time the unwed rate was 70 percent and has now risen to 74 percent, which is a SLOWER rate of increase than any other group, including whites who went from 32.6 percent to 40 percent during the same time AND looking at the trend BEFORE 1995, a great decrease for blacks who had increased nearly 15 percent in only 15 years compared to the rates of others which remained constant There is only documents of UNWED children, there is no clear study on actual living arrangements that determine who is 'present' or not And yes, blacks have lead since they started keeping data, but this topic is about MARCHES and their effects. everyone could apparently use some examples, if the only determinant is about whether numbers decrease or not. But in a culture where cohabitating parents is increasing, and the number of those seperating but not divorcing is on the rise, I would not look to 'wedlock' statistics as indicator of whether fathers are being fathers. |

I'm for women getting paid the same as a man, who is working in that same job title! I think women may get there in maybe 20 years if Congress and Washington leaders ever gets it together!

So there's not a valid reason to March?
