The way i see it most relationships don't last, because they are usually very one sided, if you got cheated on it's because the other person is craving something your not willing to give them and the communication is extremely lacking cause 1 or the other or both have not reached puberty yet and has no idea what it actually means to be an adult (If you yell and scream like a banshee your still a bloody child and you should have opened your dam mouth long before it got to this point) if you genuinely love a person you will do what is necessary, we all like different things and that is all subject to change and if you can't handle the change then the obvious happens :D So really i guess you should have taken the time to see how compatible you were in the first place especially with likes and dislikes (specially your sexual desires) and you have to be flexible with so many things, not to mention keeping yourself clean (a lot of women have no clue how to keep their PH levels proper and for gods sakes get a gynecologist) Men are just as bad tho being a good communicator and being openly flexible with what your partner wants is a "Must" to have any chance at a long lasting loving relationship. I know this stuff and still struggle lmfao :D

Life. From my experience, even if two people connect initially, people change. Life changes them, so being happy within the first year or five, does not mean that you'll be together forever.

Work, school, kids, friends, tragedies, stress...unlimited number of reasons why relationships end.

Reasons why relationship don't work or last

They stop fulfilling the purpose for which they were started, and/or become detrimental to fulfilling more important ones, and/or alternative options are more viable in comparison.

Relationships aren't cookies, that get burned or go stale or crumble.
They aren't external static objects that you build, a final goal you acquire and can then enjoy, as a perpetually refreshing consumable reward if done "right."

"Relationship" (as used here) is just a shortcut label/word to describe the way two (or more) people interact. An attempt to denote intentions, expectations, emotions, feelings, boundaries, group structure, social position, etc., in as few words as possible.

So all you're really asking is "Reasons why people stop interacting with each other?"

That's pretty easy.
The interaction stops serving any real purpose (it's fulfilled the intended purpose which triggered the desire to interact in the first place, or realization that a purpose can't be fulfilled), and/or causes a negative emotional reaction that outweighs any positive ones, and/or more efficient/higher reward means of fulfillment are available.

I agree with this, but I also think that because of all the stresses described above, people stop making the time to nurture their relationship ie to communicate, to date , to have fun.

In the beginning of a relationship , there is more adrenalin that carrying the uniom, but as that fades with time, genuine conscious effort is needed to keep that fire alive and many are not committed to the ongoing effort that's required

I also think that many of us choose incompatible mates and those stark differences pull a couple apart over time

^^This.... there seem to be core universal reasons, but it's different for each relationship. What works for some, doesn't work for others.

It can be as simple as excessive teasing. If one partner is sensitive and the other is constantly teasing her/him....that doesn't tend to lead to a lasting relationship.

Hummm this is one of those loaded questions~~~

And one if anyone had the true answers they could write a book and have a best seller...

There is no way to pin point down to one or two things why relationships do not last...

If we knew that we would not go through more then one in our lifetime~~~

Communication is one of the main factors but still in no way the only factor~~

Fairy tales whoa

In all seriousness Mayb, even though nothing truly lasts forever, I believe for a lot of people, the desire is for the relationship to last a lifetime. At least for me that is. drinker

 I to agree ... mainly when you are spending time other then being with your family ... and when communication goes away between the both of you ... it is or has ended ...
