i think "to good to be true" tends to come from looking to hard for the not good stuff because you haven't seen any yet

would that be a negative thing then?

i think if you put too much effort into it then yes.

i think that it is self defeating to search that hard for the negatives. after all there really is no such thing as perfect.

I agree, I believe sometimes people spend too much energy looking for when the shoe's going to drop, what could go wrong or being suspicious of why the other is so nice, instead of just embracing the moment and seeing what's good.

I think a good person is someone with integrity and compassion as others here have said but I particularly admire the good people who strive to take the high road even when faced with the pettiness or unkindness of others. It really takes goodness to a next level :)

Only to add some words: Neutral or indifferent persons are the vast majority in this world; good persons who are always ready to give and help others is a significant minority group. Natural and converted bad persons is another minority group always ready to hurt others in many ways.

You have already texted all the pertinent details about the subject.

When you're busy but you stop to help someone because it looks like they need help. That's a good person.

Kind consideration for others first before oneself - putting others first before oneself-even when they don't deserve it or at great inconveniences to oneself is goodnesss.

A good person's actions will always give them away. Look for the actions.

'Good person', for me is just someone who through their actions and words APPEARS to care about fellow human beings

I go with my instincts. If the person lies, not answers directly and to the point, talks to many people while chatting with me and so forth, gives me a good idea what kind of person they are.

you got it sea and on line those deeds are hard to parse from the masks

Not to judge your opinion, but your statement makes me wonder.
In real life people wear masks and hide behind walls just the same and some are experts at presenting something they're not. I'm thinking maybe online some could be more real as it can be easier to be authentic without having someone sat across from you in a restaurant.
It's not black & white.

Also, when you learn (how) to pay heed online, you can derive a lot from what someone says, how they phrase things, react to things you say, and let's not forget their own profile text.
When I read his profile text my jaw dropped as the style of writing was so close to mine. I could've written it myself. He was drawn to mine, kinda logical. Both were positive, exuded happiness and confidence in what we were looking for.
If someone doesn't have joy and zest for life, their profile cannot exude this either, unless they nicked it from another. but then you soon find out when you start chatting. Someone cannot fake such things, not easily.
Even his first message piqued my interest. It was clearly someone who was himself, positive, confident, and not the BS "How are you? I like your profile. Can we talk?"
If you then also have a photo of that person, you can tell quite a lot about someone. You can tell if the 'light in their eyes' is on or not. Eyes never lie.

I don't think online is all that different. We just aren't used to it, we have to learn to tap into other means of going through the assortment so to speak.
Just go through a large amount of profile photos, look in ppl's eyes and see if you can tell if they're happy and positive or not.
When I first got onto dating sites I had to stop browsing after 15-30 minutes cos all the pain and misery that exuded from ppl's pictures was too much for me ohwell
Now I'm quite sensitive to that stuff, but anyone can do/learn that.

so true crystal and i probably should have said harder. because here we have only words and they even get changed by the experiences of the reader. where as in real life you get so much more from body language and such.and most times you can actually see said deeds. something as simple as catching them stopping to hurry a turtle across a busy road as a simple example

Those who refuse to turn a blind eye when they know something is wrong. They are good people.

The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty of the bad people, but the silence over that by so called good people.

Why stop for a turtle? Can't its shell handle everything up to a Sherman tank?
Sorry, just goofing around. I'm hungry, then my brain gets deprived of sugar and comes up with crazy stuff.
