A Georgia school district apologized after a teacher compared President Trump's slogan to a Swastika and told a student they could not wear their #MAGA shirt to school any more.
"You cannot wear a Swastika to school - you cannot use a slogan like that," the teacher told the student. The directive was caught on what appeared to be another student's cell phone video, which was obtained by Turning Point USA. The Cherokee School District outside Atlanta later apologized, saying the student did nothing wrong and that the teacher acted "inappropriately." The school did not formally identify the teacher, but Turning Point alleged that she is Lyn Orletsky, a mathematics instructor. Town Hall pointed out Trump is not the first American president to use the phrase in a public way, adding that teachers in the 80s and 90s had no problem with Presidents Reagan and Clinton using it. http://insider.foxnews.com/2017/09/04/teacher-tells-student-no-swastika-donald-trump-make-america-great-again-shirt Reagan made the call to "Make America Great Again" in his 1980 convention speech. Clinton, who blasted Trump as speaking to "white southerners" when he says "Make America Great Again," used the slogan in 1991, 1992 and as recently as 2008. Ummm... So Much for FREEDOM |

FREEDOM in its most absolute sense, has never existed in a 'civilized' society
|
|
|
|
Sure it has but what is civilized?
Society determines civilization. It sets the determination for civilized conduct. What one society considers civil another may find savage. The United States preaches freedom yet restricts freedom itself. There is a name for people like that and most intelligent people don't like them. No wonder most of the world has such a low opinion of the USA. We even refer to ourselves as Americans like we are the only people entitled to that name. Well, America is a hemisphere and Mexicans and Canadians and Brazillians and Chilians are also Americans. So are all the other countries that exist on this hemisphere (not to minimize any American). Just like Egyptians are Africans. It just irks me when someone says "well, that's the American way" implying that because they are from the USA they are the only Americans. Our idea of freedom is no more freedom than it is a representation of America. America is not free. Trump is not the American president. America doesn't have a president. There are societies in America that enjoy a much greater degree of freedom than in the United States. We call them savages because they don't adhere to our rules for society. |

I prefer the balance. I would not want to live in a totally 'free'(Without rules or laws) society nor would I want to live in one that ran to the other extreme of OVER regulating.
animals are totally free, but I do not want to be merely another animal. as my mom always said 'your freedom ends where my nose begins' in a country where we are quite often sharing space with other noses, complete freedom would be like partial pregnancy unattainable,,, |

Your mom is a smart cookie!
The United States was founded with a decree of what constituted the freedoms we would have. Personal expression is a freedom that should only be regulated to prevent harm to other people. Wearing a tee shirt does not harm anyone. Drawing a gun does not harm anyone. (nor does owning one) Somewhere along the history of this nation we substituted emotional insecurities to mean bodily harm. Having ones 'feelings' hurt now constitutes physical violence. This nation is pussified. |

it can get extreme
but I do support a value being placed on peoples sense of safety and freedom from social persecution,,,or their 'feelings' school is a place for learning, not fashion trends, so I consider it a privilege that kids wear what they want and not a 'freedom' certain words and pictures are disruptive, others imply a hostility that creates an environment where others have to be insecure about their safety or their ability to have a freedom from harassment work is a place for earning, not our social lives, so I consider it a privilege to wear what we want at work, to mingle and 'socialize' at work, and certainly to have cell phones and internet access at work I think the pendulum just swung too far to the 'let everyone do what they want' side, and when certain unwanted circumstances of that trend began to surface, it began to swing the other way as societal cultures do,, nothing is new under the sun, we just go from one side to the next and back again |

I don't know. Probably those in schools with uniform dress codes who cant wear endorsements, or even those without dress codes by teachers who felt it was disruptive to wear political endorsements to the class.

As far as teachers go I really do think they should be impartial, but I do wonder how many actually are?
This is a dangerous thing if you get teachers pushing there thoughts and views on to pupils |
