I wonder why most guys who are interested in meeting up usually asked to go out for a coffee? Your thoughts guys It's not only guys... most people prefer to go just for coffee on first meets. Actually it is advisable because it gives both parties a chance to see if there is chemistry between them. If there is chemistry then you go on second date... if no chemistry then it was just coffee... no big deal... thank each other for showing up. It used to be "Let's go for a drink." That was in the 70s and 80s. But with lots of bad people trolling the internet these days, IMO going for a drink with a total stranger you met in the internet, is not advisable. Plus you don't go for a drink at 10 o'clock in the morning now, do you? Plus alcohol is more expensive than coffee, well probably the same if you go to Starbucks. |

I personally would rather have the first meetup be going out for coffee. |

I really only drink coffee in the morning but a milkshake or a slushie works too. Around here we have snowball stands. Lets go get a snowball and take a walk or sit by a tree in the shade.

Isn't it because most ppl drink coffee? I rarely come across a man who's favorite daytime drink is tea? I can't help but think a guy drinking tea is like a man ordering a glass of milk in the pub. Oh, hang about... let's include a safety clause here; exception for English blokes, grin. You can't hold it against them, they don't know any better (yet) . . . Oh dear, keep that to yourself if ever in the UK Edit, I wrote my answer as you were editing yours Hahaha, I suddenly realized how much English ppl like to drink their tea. Couple yrs back my English friend was gonna make a real English cuppa, and I said I wanted one too. I thought why the heck not. One sip and OMG! Really not my cup of tea, haha Crystal how could you! I felt much like asking my friend the same question? I used to drink tea with milk as a kid and loved it, but I really cannot stomach it anymore. Most Dutch ppl drink different teas anyways, herbal or floral and with spices and so on. That's the tea I got too, from a healthfood store. So the other day my English friends came over, and I thought, "Bleep! I haven't got plain English tea!" I wanted to be polite, but didn't have time to go to the supermarket anymore. I was in hospital, you can get free coffee and tea there, and I nicked two bags, lol. Could've been three. Hey, it was for a good cause!! Bummer was, they came over and wanted coffee |

Most people have time for a coffee meet It is very quick .. so if there is no attraction or someone has been deceptive about who they are .. the coffee can be gulped in five minutes If there is attraction .. you can have a long coffee date that extends into something else Some men still view coffee as a precursor to sex .. remember the old line .. coffee.. tea .. or me so choose carefully and have fun Hi Blondey Will choose very carefully Thanks. |

I wonder why most guys who are interested in meeting up usually asked to go out for a coffee? Your thoughts guys Coffee meet n greet comes across as harmless.. What would you prefer? Don't get me wrong. Meeting up for coffee is fine. I am just curious as to why guys have to say "Lets go out for coffee" instead of just saying "Lets go out sometime". Something like that. Let's go oyr somtime Is very open rnded. Is this a date? Dressing up? What are the particulars? If someone were to say let's go to the bar, you m8ght wonder ablut their intentions. Let's go for coffee is comfortable to meet up and you can expand your plans if things are working out |

From the replies here, i consider it a generic invitation which has the objective of meeting in a public venue where consuming beverages (be it coffee, tea, snowball, etc) is a non-threatening feature of that first face-to-face interaction.
