Being quiet and reserved is part of my nature. I've been labeled shy or timid by some. I get nervous in social settings, in particular medium or large groups, and when around people whom are new to me. There was a brief period during my early twenties that I felt a little more comfortable being minimally outgoing and engaging.

I've come to consider myself introverted.

I'm never going to be the guy who captivates a room with my presence, and I don't really care to be. Like most of us, what I want is to be in the right places, at the right times, and in the right state of being, to catch the attention of a person or people that I'm well matched with.

I guess we can't all be Robin Williams ( RIP) That's what makes them unique.

I've been speaking in public since age 7 and been involved in dramatic arts most of my life (all predicated on being thoroughly prepared).

I even heard a quote from Julia Roberts, that she wishes that she had that "Will Smith Factor". I understood immediately.

(Only sighting "celebrity" for common recognizability. We all know people like this in every day life.)

Interesting post, this. Made me think. And wonder if you'd even really be aware of being charismatic?
For instance... I've been the Master of Ceremonies for 8 years during the King's day gig. Yesterday was the first time since 2009 I didn't MC.
I always got so many compliments from people that I was a natural, how good I was and so on. And yeah, I loved it, I know I am good at it, but still when ppl compliment me I am slightly confused and find myself thinking "What's the big deal? Anyone can do that?"
Others told me that's not the case. Oh. If you say so. To me it's still not a big deal, others find me charismatic when on stage. I don't see it. I'm just enjoying myself, doing what I do best, what makes me happy.

Similar when you're with a group of people. I'm not the one that everyone automatically listens to, I don't feel that way anyways. But sometimes I'm talking to someone and suddenly notice the entire group has gone quiet and is listening to me.
Always confuses me, cos what is the big deal?

I began to notice of late that whenever I enter the pub, I get a lot of attention that lasts throughout the night. From both male and female. I don't do anything though. I'm alone, don't flirt, not looking nor trying to get attention, not at all. It can even irritate me to get it, hihi. Because I don't understand it. It confuses me. "What's the big deal? What's so special?"

So I'm wondering, if you are charismatic, would you even be aware of it?

In any case, what I have noticed throughout the years that when you are trying to be charismatic, try to get attention or whatever, it doesn't work. It only seems to work when your authentic. When you're feeling happy, confident, do what you love doing. Then you apparently radiate this 'thing'.

This is so interesting. You stated before that you are not necessarily outgoing, yet you are a MC. You go into a pub un-self-conscious and hold the room.

I've come off stage so embarrassed, and my comrades say, "Dude you KILLED IT!" I've come off confident and had a Director say, "Dude, you need to work on your blocking!"

Perhaps we have it AND "work on it"?
