Topic: No more O'Reilly on Fox? | |
---|---|
In a shocking reversal of fortune for one of the most prominent voices in TV news, Bill O’Reilly has been ousted from Fox News Channel amid the firestorm over sexual harassment allegations leveled against the host in recent years.
Parent company 21st Century Fox said Wednesday: “After a thorough and careful review of the allegations, the Company and Bill O’Reilly have agreed that Bill O’Reilly will not be returning to the Fox News Channel.” The decision to turn O’Reilly loose appears to have been made between Tuesday and Wednesday by the Murdochs, the family who control the operations of Fox News parent 21st Century Fox. O’Reilly has been off the air since last Wednesday, part of what was billed a planned vacation around the Easter holiday. He had initially planned to return to his 8 p.m. show “The O’Reilly Factor” on April 24. But as outrage mounted and new allegations of inappropriate behavior surfaced, it became clear to the Murdochs and other leaders of Fox News parent company 21st Century Fox that the company could no longer afford to back the star who helped bring Fox News to prominence nearly 20 years ago. more at http://www.yahoo.com/tv/fox-news-fires-bill-oreilly-amid-sexual-harassment-storm-183851947.html I wonder if they would have stood behind him under different circumstances, or whether this was a collection of other things that happened to culminate into these accusations? |

The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Yay! Fox News Corp did something correct.
Now if only Rupert Murdoch wasn't in charge of the company. Considering he too has had allegations of sexual harassment brought against him. |

I'm no fan of OReilly, but should allegations be enough?
I suspect he was an *** to work with in general and this just gave them enough of an excuse to finally do something about it |

Payoffs should be proof that there was something to the allegations brought against him.

I like the guy, but if you do that.. if you carry on that way, you deserve to be fired. He was smart enough to know that. Now he will pay the price
Maybe he can join Crosby and do a stand up act ( comedy & politics) |

Payoffs should be proof that there was something to the allegations brought against him. I only see payoff of proof that one did not want the hassle of trial, innocent or not trials parade people in front of the public, especially celebrities, and they can impact ones popularity with details of any character imperfection, let alone the stress of being questioned and having loved ones or friends questioned on a stand they are their own source of stress, regardless of innocence, that is easier to avoid when one has money |

He is such a pig when it comes to women.
Apparently enough was enough. |
|
|

and he's now rich....I hate him....

Hummm, one might be able to question his innocents if he had only been accused by one woman.. But come on instead of one he had FIVE accusing him of the same thing... He settled with them for a total of 13 Million between them~~~ yea I'm sure he was innocent NOT~~~

gossip is not something new
if several people can repeat the same gossip, why can't they just as easily repeat the same accusation? Especially understanding the 'truth in numbers' culture and how quickly it works,,,, |

Cause it is harder for me to believe that five women were willing to lie, and take the chance of one of them not being able to carry the lie through.
Then for me not to believe he settled due to he knew he could not get out of it.. And by settling you are not admitting guilt just that you don't want to deal with it... But it does not keep those as me thinking most likely he settled, cause if it went to court he could have lost a hell of a lot more... |

lies don't need to be organized unless the claimant's claim included them witnessing the other events, so it wouldn't matter if any of them changed stories after
it's like with blackmail, once others know you are a player, they try to get their piece I hope he is guilty, as terrible as it is so that the consequences are just I just am troubled by how easy it is for these types of unproven allegations to be taken as proof in and of themselves,,,, |

I would suggest you understand what the person must do in a sexual harassment case. The first thing she must do is file a complaint with her immediate supervisor at the company she works with. The company under the law now is to investigate the complaint and make a determination of punishment if any. Failure of the person to file the complaint means she can not file a law suit.
Fox news admitted they never investigated any complaints. They failed to do their duty as mandated by law. Now, they are going to face additional charges of bad faith and fair dealings based upon their own statements of well we did not investigate but have the complaints. You do not nor anyone but the people who complained know what was in their orginal complaint. Fox does and terminated OReily based upon those facts and their own investigations into the complaints. |

Its called " stopping the bleeding" Fox is a business that now has 25 less sponsors.. that is a fact. The women who are accusing his are well educated business women of very good standing. And a settlement was made. That is all you need. I like the guy.. but I would have to believe the woman... Fox... well they just had to stop the revenue loss.... business 101 |

The show is now over. Time to move on.

I found it far more "shocking" that it took several years of payoffs in the millions, AND a final sudden drought of sponsors to push Fox into acting.
The situation still stands, as another classic example of "profitable abuse will be tolerated; unprofitable abuse will be self-righteously decried." |

The show is now over. Time to move on. well, we can still talk about it.. right? |

Odd fox will answer to their share holders. They already now must answer why they failed to investigagte, why they paid out, what steps have they taken to correct his matter. That right for is a business who is accountable to their share holders. |
