illegal: not allowed by law
I'm not sure there was a written law one way or the other when the settlers came to the USA until they occupied and created some but I do know that the ones in charge determine the law, usually based loosely in their own culture and values I believe people often interchange legality with morality, which I consider a mistake for instance: it was once illegal to make, sell, or distribute alcohol, and that 'crime' naturally lead to more who could be deemed 'criminal',,,, but as time went on, that changed I think it is a matter of the disparity that can exist between 'the letter of the law',, and 'the spirit of the law' sometimes we just seek to punish,, and other times to be just but to many, ALL that matters is the law and whether it is followed to the letter,,,,,I always felt details matter when considering the 'spirit' of the law,,,,,or at least they should,,,, |

Another very good response from msharmony.
It has become popular for all sorts of people, to start up games of "dueling self-righteousness," or to play semantic tricks, in order to make complex situations appear obvious and one-sided. I've heard several variations of this particular subject. This one, from one side, is popular; another from the other side, bases the legitimacy of various invasions, colonizations, and even enslavements, on how much more was produced after a given land was stolen, or people were conquered/handed over to despotism, and so on. Neither is actually truly logical. Neither argument accounts for all the facts, and both are based on unspoken moral assumptions. Those assumptions are snuck in by people who make such arguments, because they can't be so easily dismissed, as is needed to make the argument work. One of the (lesser) epiphanies I had, as a result of my ongoing studies of human history, was that there is not even ONE piece of land on the planet, which was not "owned" by someone else, before the people living there now, moved in. Not one. So there is no valid, completely logical way to justify either conquests, or prohibitions of humans from anywhere. Not without allowing before the discussion starts, that one side or the other has rigged the game. |

This title is nonsense .every country limits immigration .But this idea falls flat when you realize if the Aztec or Mayans tried to invade Apache or Comanche nations they would be met with overwhelming violence.and there would be no legal immigration. Just respect a countries laws.every country has borders that came about by war or treaty .as for the a.a.m racist comments about Europeans immigration policy. In Europe and U.S. is much more tolerant on immigration than say Africa or Asia.if you don't believe me research xenophobia violence in South Africa that happened last yr. Also Mexico has big as *** fence border with Guatemala. Now having said that I do believe there needs to be an increased legal immigration after a period of three yrs.

Blame them Meh, There are no originals from the western continents. Mankind migrated from the East to this landmass via the arctic land bridge during the last ice age. Native Americans are a mix of those people and the culture that migrated back north from the aztec nations. I'm curious why it matters? |

Original people here (native americans) are not illegal here. The topic is wrong. Native Americans even get special benefits here

The English, Spanish and French ivaded long before the US. If you want to blame the US, you have to blame Australia, NZ, Canada, India and many others too. We were all colonies. The difference is we (good or bad) rose faster but we paid in blood

According to the current scientific paleontology models we are all Africans.
Civilization originated (by record) in China so society is Chinese. Edit to add specific origin notation |

no one knows...they're just now figuring out that seemingly Nords were here before anyone else...I fail to see what ur race or the history of ur family tree has to do with anyone being in this country illegally...it's irrelevant there is no debate....either you went thru the current proper legal channels to be here or you did not..end of discussion

Anyway, going back to JUST the meaning of the label "illegal:"
it's straightforward, and not subjective. If there is a law in place, and the people who established the law have authority at the moment, and you go against the law, you did something ILLEGAL. Justice, especially in a moral sense, has zero to do with it. |

Only American Indians were here many years ago. When the pilgrims arrived, there was room for immigrants. And I can't say that it was right for the Europeans and other immigrants to fight with the natives. But that is what humans do. We always seem to want more.
And in this day and age, we can not be sure that those who come from foreign lands are going to respect the law and those who are already here. |
