A little background, about 3 weeks ago i just ended a 3+ year relationship with my now ex. Recently i have started to go out and make new friends and meet new people, and i have met someone that i think i could start a relationship with. I am also the type of person who puts 100% into any type of relationship i start and tend to form bonds very easily.

My question is how much time after a longterm relationship do most people wait before starting to look for another longterm/serious partner?

I think when we are ready we know it...
Too soon could be disasterous though. We need enough time
to work things out with ourselfs before we move on. It is not a good thing to drag an old relationship into a new one- if you know what I mean... Goodluck...

I think I waited way too long myself- due to fear.

I just ended a 8 year relationship earlier this year. I dated a few people earlier this year, but they did not work out, I was still in love with my ex. 8 months later, I am finally over him, and am ready to move on. If you really like this girl, i would respect her enough to wait until you are sure that you are ready.

It varies on the individual person. After a 6 year relationship, it took me 3 years to get over them. I am more than ready to date, yet am having difficulty finding someone willing to take a chance. Go figure.noway indifferent

After a four year relationship I did no dating until after about six months and then I was still tender but I did not have to go on and on about the ex to the new guy. I guess it would be individual but I think we all try to replace what we had and that can be dangerous for us and the other person involved. Otherwise there would not be a term "rebound". I hope this helps.

As a general rule, wait until you are comfortable and happy being single again before you start looking to date.

I would be careful. If you are over someone in 3 weeks either there was not much of a relationship with your ex over those 3 years or the reality of the break up has not hit you yet. When the ex and I broke up after a 6 year relationship my initial reaction was relief that ii was over. We were free of the stress of the problems. Then about a month later the reality of the break up really set in. It was like a delayed reaction. It's been 6 months and we are still trying to figure out if it is over or we should re-evaluate. I am sure everyone circumstances are different.

i am getting out of a 15 yr relationship
the beginning stages of divorce
I thought I would be the one going nuts and alone for a long period of time
but after the initial shock of it all
I could tell I was enjoying being single again
there is no set time frame it all depends on the individual
and you may not be ready to jump into a hot and heavy relationship yet
take your time, be honest with your self and whoever you may find and it will all work out
good luck
