I think there have been a great deal of good commentary concerning the issue of censorship/deletion posted here. I really feel things worked well when we reported abuse to Mike and Van and they made determinations based on facts. The delete button should not be an open option for everyone who wants to exact a personal grievance, which is what I feel the case may often be. We need objective moderators with open minds and common sense. Members should be able to post freely and moderators should be in place to maintain decorum.

i agree no forums should be governed by the members, only the staff

I see the JSH site as one of privilege, and not as an inalienable right.

Perhaps a different time of day will insure a thread stays alive.

Some threads also die mysterious deaths from lack of participation and are relegated to the dungeon of page 35923 of their category.

Others like blonde jokes, sink or swim by the random virtues of those online.

Perhaps we could have a forum category called " Blonde Jokes"

maybe we should email the admins and ask them to remove the delete option because apparently some people on here are incapable of handling policing privileges.

I think the systems in place are fine. If the vote delete topic wasn't there we would have some real winners causing trouble over and over. Again this is a privately owned business site.

i will say that i have reported abuse twice, each time asking mike to review the abuse b/c i may have been viewing the comments incorrectly. i have voted to delete spammers, and a couple of outright abusive threads. (and as an inside joke, i vote to delete a friend's threads. )

And the same people would then critique that problem.

LHB....it worked so much better the way it USED to be. Since this is a "privately owned forum", then the owner should be the ultimate decision maker. Or at least appoint a board of responsible moderators to oversee things. It shouldn't be left up to people who come here with issues, vendettas or various forms of psychoses.

I understnd!! I yield the floor!!laugh laugh laugh

But, while I'm at it, Lily, I had never thought about grudges and vendettas as motives to delete a thread. That seems a most plausible example of bad manners, most certainly, yes, indeed!!!

one final thought, no matter what is in place, there will be abuse of power. this is a free site and mike, van and matt are not chained to their computers trying to read all the posts. it is too much to follow. mike has said before that he would look into ppl overusing the delete button. they are also not always around when things are being reported. and abuse could go on for awhile before being eventually deleted. am i rambling or making sense? LOL

What if the administrator allowed certain people, Editing access, this would have to be at the admins will of who or how these are set but i think that would be a good idea. Maybe base it on how active the individual is on the boards

I still think that those who delete should be displayed so we can help mike, van and matt with determining who is delete happy.
