How many people here have felt violated by censorship on JSH? Ever have a post deleted for no justifiable cause? Feel as though you are being "watched"? Afraid to speak out for fear of banning or suspension...(otherwise known as the ultimate time-out chair)? Wondering if you fell asleep and woke up in the Soviet Union? Let's hear about it.....if you feel your rights as determined by the Constitution have been infrined upon, speak up.

I haven't but I have seen it. The administartor needs to step in. To many posts being deleted for no reason at all. How do you feel about it?

I agree, rj. I think it is too much power to give to those who are dysfunctionally insecure and consequently choose to live vicariously through their allmighty "delete" button.

i dont have a problem with the delete button, personally. i know certain people do and thats ok. i have seen it used correctly and i have seen it abused. i am afraid to speak my mind though at times b/c of the report abuse button being overused. as soon as someone says something that another person doesnt like, they run to the report button. i am lately finding that button to be overused.

what people do not realize this is not a public ((owned site)) it is a privately owned site, you have no rights so to speak. no i do not work here but it seems when there is a problem like this everyone wants to go post about it, why not just email the person who deleted it? so i would say censorship is in order to some degree or in order to the aspects of the owners. no one likes to have posts deleted but its life and it happens, this is the Internet peeps....

good point people should move on and let the mods(if there are any) and the admins take care of posts...

i wasn't spiting. i was passing on information that i thought was useful, but it turned out to be offensive, and derogatory. i asked the dog about what i said, and you know he did not have any opinion. so there.

I stepped away from JSH for a time because of such violations, Winnie. Too many whiners, too much insecurity.....like children on a playground running to tell the teacher, "he looked at me".........I feel people need to stand on their own two feet a bit more. When JSH first started it wasn't like this at all. That is why so many of my friends have left here. It is total crap. There are situations that are totally over-the-line and need to be rectified, of course, but there is also a lot of "I'm telling...naneenaneenanee" as well.

The problem here is that the community has mod privleges. This means that there are no set moderators, and that a group of people can delete ANY post they want for no reason. Although posts do need to be "voted off", the amount of votes is very small compared to the size of the community, and does not represent the majority.

JSH admin should atleast make the mod privleges more restrictive, instead of deleting posts, have them flagged, and let the admin. determine if they should be removed, or allowed.

I think somthing should be in place where thers should be an email for reason the post was in fact deleted. I mean there are too many people nowadays looking for reasons to take people to courtgrumble

maybe when a topic comes up and is deleted all those who posted and didn't have a problem with the thread should email the admins and demand an explanation. if they get enough of these complaints they might change something. and if they threatin to ban you then contact an attorney and see what he/she has to say about it.

the word is SPITING, and not SPITTING. big difference. i picked the word up from some person above me using it. SPITE....hence spiting.

the post was about a catshift eating dog. in another forum about censorship kind of related......that got deleted.

they, the people posting recently, picked up from that post and started this post.....
does that explain my puzzles?

anyway, i thank you for your support and discussion on the subject. it will never be solved. not in our lifetime.flowerforyou

Atomic, it may be a private site, but these are public forums...this IS the internet, yes. This is also The United States of America. How many small town newspapers are privately owned, yet still afford citizens the constitutional freedom to free speech? We are free to post our opinions in tasteful editorials. I agree the derogatory and abusive posts are a violation in and of themselves; hence the REPORT button. The REPORT button was all we used to have and Mike and Van handled it. Deletion of post option is not something that should be handed out willie-nillie.............

Well, as far as being able to do something legally, I don't think there is anything we can do. The site is free. We have free will to use the site AS-IS, at our own risk, if we wish.

lily, you are right. it has changed a lot. looking at the date under your pic, you joined the day before me. we have been here for awhile and used to be able to argue more openly. there is a lot of "im telling mommy" going on. the report button was used in cases of harassment, not "im telling on you, so there". i miss all the great ppl that have left here.

so i ask one last question before i depart this forum, and just what are you going to do about it?

the rule is if it is derogatory or offensive relating to....and i outlined it....you do it once, u get warning.

you will get the axe if you do it again, and permanently u will be gone forever. they will cut u off.
bigsmile
so the point is be careful. i will never report what makes my dog sick again, and if i do, i certainly will not mention catshift eating dogs.noway  bigsmile bigsmile bigsmile because it trigger's a button.bigsmile bigsmile bigsmile bigsmile

i see your point. but the again its not a newspaper its a forum, one of thousands. its like going to someones house and they tell you to shut up you aint allowed to talk while inside. you have the right to keep talking? no you dont... i have owned several forums and i do own quite a few websites, its just not the same and there is a fine line about this being a public forum, it is a private forum.....
