A moment captured
Stored and held away deep in the recesses of memory
Pushed back by other thoughts and memories
Just a scent, a whiff of rose
Brings it all back
Flooding my senses
Overwhelmed with emotion
Struck mute and dumb
As a tear slides its way down my cheek
Just one tear...for there are no more
Cried the pain out long ago
Now just a bittersweet memory
Trailing its way through my mind
And for a moment I am once again seventeen
Cold gray November day
Rain falling as we stand in a circle
Around that deep hole
Saying goodbye one last time
The scent of rose, cloying and sweet
Filling my nose as I fight waves of nausea
Your ring clutched tightly in my hand
The first fist fulls of dirt ringing dully on the metal
I walk up , close, letting the ring go
It falls, glittering among the earth
Turning and walking away
In the cold November rain

reminds me of the day we layed my great grandmother to rest..

the only rain falling was the tears from our eyes and though we said goodbye long before she died( she didnt remember any of us but we were still around helping with her in the nursing home.. we still had to say our last goodbyes
