Well, first of it doesn't hurt to turn 50.
It feels pretty danged good.
You know who you are and what you stand for. Usually you've reached a great many things in life, like a nice job, the family you wanted, the house etc etc. So a lot of stress and fears concerning 'need-to-haves' have gone.
Still plenty left to want and desire, but then it's from a place of (more) inner rest. More confidence. Knowing what you want and what is good for you and what is not.
All in all I can say it's more relaxed. More fun.
Even if you never reached what you wanted (great house, that posh car etc) you still have more confidence, inner peace and a helluva lot more wisdom.

But bear in mind it's very personal. There's a lot of ppl in their 50s that feel sorry for themselves, like they missed the boat, and the best years of their life have gone.

Yes it depends on what you have achieved. Sometimes you have the best plans in mind but the universe decides against it. So accepting your life and making goals for your older years is part of the 50's experience.

Physically it's when things start going downhill and you regret not slapping those moisturizers on when you were still in your twenties. Wrinkles happen. Skin gets decidedly less supple and dry. You have to adjust to feeling still 30 but the mirror keeps insulting you laugh

Feels the same as turning 30.
Seriously.
No difference.

It doesn't really matter how old you are,its what your doing, and the people in your life. I'm still pretty much in denial about my age,and still try to do a lot of the things that I did when I was much younger.
With some things I have to give myself a reality check, and ask myself if I really SHOULD be doing this or that.
I think the main thing to do when you get a little older,is to stay active, and not worry too much about time gone past, and just start each day anew...

I'm in the "there's nothing inherently cool about any age" group.

Every "ledge" age has the potential to make a person reassess things, but that happens at every one of them. Even at 10.

Since you are 28, the only sort of "cool" age you have to look forward to, is 35. You aren't old enough to be President until then. After that, there are no special positive social or legal rewards for any age.

Best thing about hitting 50 for me: AARP membership, and the associated discount on my car insurance. Downside: health insurance companies start to hike things up, because my fellow Americans are worse than I am about eating and drinking and smoking.

I agree with madcat here

it totally depends upon the individual and their previous choices in life

may suck to be struggling and unhealthy at 50
may be amazing to be financially secure and fit at 50 too

it must be just as diverse as the individuals who go through it

It has worked out pretty good for me .The wild days are gone,I exercise, eat right, have a decent job, enjoy the small things in life, have a nice home by the ocean, life is good and I am truly blessed.

Feels like falling off the back of a moving truck. Realizing your alive, then a big rig runs you over. Then your thing falls off. Your balls hit ther ground. Oh yea your Ummmm memory something... well I'm sure it's not important. Then You start craving duels, pistols, carrots, bananas, cats and cacti. Oh wait you said 50, I thought you said 30. Never mind. Turning 50 is great. 30.... just kill yourself it's easier... just between you and meeeeee.

Best Birthday ever was my 50th. Rocked out, singing and playing with a band in my local. I'm now 67 years old and still kicking as* four beats to the bar. After two near fatal heart attacks in May of 2009 my cardiologist would have a fit if he saw me on a podium now. Sod that dieing peacefully in your sleep malarkey. I want to go out with a guitar in my hands.

It's cool when the cops look at you, and then keep driving away, looking for younger easier prey.
It's cool when people realize they can't pull the wool over your eyes.
It's cool if you get some sort of discount for being a senior.
It's not so nice not being able to physically do the same as when 20 yrs old.
It sucks when there are so many more beautiful women, but to them you are an old guy.
