Topic: Description: What does "Social Smoker" mean? | |
---|---|
It means occassionaly, not addicted, like a social drinker.
But like a social drinker, they are very unlikely to stop. A person who smokes a few times a day may not know or admit they are addicted anymore that someone who has 2 drinks a day or only drinks on the weekend. It is a habit or lifesyle. If it bothers you, avoid the person. People only change, for themselves. |

Sassyeuro sounds correct. The only thing I'd add to that, is that (as with many such notes in peoples' profiles) this is the person's own way of describing themselves, and not necessarily really factual.
Plenty of people who get intoxicated almost every day, describe themselves as "social drinkers." |

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm still a bit confused. It's important for me to know because I have a lung condition caused by 2nd-hand smoke. I find it hard to get enough air into my lungs, especially if I am trying to sing or exercising. It was from growing up in a household of smokers. Now, I have lacework holes in my lungs that won't kill me but makes it hard to hold air in for any amount of time. It's very uncomfortable. I used to get paid to sing at weddings, funerals, parties etc. but for the last 15 years I can't hold any note. I guess, I just need to know if social smoking means that they will light-up in my presence. It may pay to have them clarify wheither they are social smokers or antisocial smokers |

Not around me... |

To me a social smoker means they smoke whenever they are around other smokers and it's an excuse to smoke. I've dated a few smokers in my life. Never again. MSLouise, I know what you mean. If I am in a room with smokers, I have chest pains. I can be outside and smell a cigarette a block away.

I agree with cat. Its like social drinkers. Its only an activity to socialize over and nothing they do just hanging out alone.

Doesn't get much more social than a bunch of hippies passing round a joint and reminiscing over the Grateful Dead gigs and Woodstock Festival. LOL.

Not around me... The difference between a social drinker and a social smoker is difficult at best to describe. I enjoy a good wine occasionally with dinner. If I am working outside and it is hot, a. nice ice cold beer is great. A six pack will last me a month. Kissing a Social Smokeris akin to licking a slightly used ashtray. I am one of those damnable former smokers. So my opinion on smoking is jaded. I also got blind drunk when I was in the Military. Now, never. I want to remember last night. Good or bad. |

a social smoker is one that would ask you if it was ok to smoke or move away from nonsmokers even as a smoker I object to smokers sharing their exhailing smoke with me. but the worse is the one who lights up an just hold the cigerette

Tell you what, I'll light three.
One to smoke and one in each hand to wave around the room. Nobody is interested in meeting me so why should I care? Guess I'm an anti-social smoker. |

Does that mean that they only smoke around other people that are smoking. Does it mean that they are not addicted to cigarettes and only smoke rarely? Means on occasions, not every day! |
