"I just got back from my English course. Some forums use the term topic and some use the term thread. I asked my teacher what is the difference between topic and thread.. I told her I noticed that both topic and threads are being used.. She has only heard of topic, she told me that thread is a very thin fibre. "
this surprised me a lot. that is a teacher at the end of the day. i would expect that not somebody else but she should know. she must have time travelled from 80s.. |

If I'm not mistaken I think she's correct. I think thread has just become internet jargon for topic. Needle and thread, or, needle and cotton. I was in Istanbul a few weeks ago, but only for a couple of hours. Nice coffee and the women are pretty too lol, I did notice that. I got a box of Turkish delight and felt ill after eating about 30 pieces |

that is not a very old discussion. 2011 thread.
that is why i would expect her to know. a house woman may not but a teacher searches things on internet and sees.. maybe i thought wrong, i cannot insist.. :) why only a couple of hours? i guess you had time in between the 2 flights and made use of it? with turkish delights it is impossible to stop lol. i love them and hardly stop myself. i found the solution of buying small boxes :DDD |

What are Turkish Delights?
And a foreign teacher would NOT be expected to know such jargon unless she actually had used such a site as it is colloquial..and fairly recent :-) |

you are right my star. that was not a Turkish site, an english site
but - just realised - that the student was from Croatia, so the teacher may be Croatian as well but teaching English so that makes sense like you have explained :) A Turkish delight is traditional Turkish candy, very soft kind of jelly candies. it has many many many different flavours. fruit ones, coconut, rose flavour, covered with sesame seeds, grated coconut, grated pistachio.. 100s of different kinds. |

A topic is the subject of a thread.
If you think of a long piece of string with all the fibers and what not, that would be the thread, all the comments and photos related to the topic. And now I reaaaaallllly want to try some Turkish delights and don't know where I can get some. Thanks once again Tribu. |
