I think my roof is covered under my insurance.. I have to start looking for quotes too as mine has started leaking.. not heavily.. but enough to notice.. all round the chimney.. *sighs*..

I did that too.. worked for 3 mths in 2024 and got all the $$ I needed to replace my cooktop, built-in oven, TV and all my deck supplies.. my project is putting the roof on the deck this summer.. this shud be interesting if I don't kill myself in the process

but you're right.. never ending list of 'things to do'.. mind you.. been thinking of selling and moving to a cruise ship.. no more shoveling, reno's, repairs, cooking or bills!

Just call your Insurance they will send roofers out they work with.. And you will not have to mess with them much.

Humm well I don't have insurance on my house.. So all out of pocket.. Just had my AC Unit inside and outside replaced about 6 months due to it died but then the outside unit was 32 years old inside was over 15 Ohh and I splurged and bought me a new car last Jan...

So I will be working a while longer... But I have a super easy job and only work 4 days a week.. So can't complain about that..

doesn't quite work that way up here in Quebec.. we call the insurance co.. they send an investigator.. once approved we get an allowed amount for the repair then we gotta do all the work in finding contractors.. they simply have to be reputable and registered

although I truly believe any insurance is a scam (money grab) with my luck, once I'd let my lapse, the house would probably crumble to the ground

I'd love to do more cruising.. just way too expensive solo and most ports are in the USA.. which for me traveling there is kind of no freakin way at the moment.. the ICE (frozen snow) I have here is enough of a headache.. which reminds me.. had more come down last night so.. best get shoveling.. yet again..

The purpose of any business is to make money. If any company has less money coming in than it has going out, they will quickly become bankrupt.

That said, unless you have enough money to meet any emergency (e.g., you are a billionaire), you need insurance to cover large and unexpected expenses. Furthermore, some insurance is required by law (e.g., cars).

In the particular case of insurance, it's only a scam if they intentionally deny valid claims (i.e., they don't adhere to the contract between them and their customers).

thanks for the unsolicited education.. however.. I used to work for an insurance company and I'm fully aware of the ins and outs.. and why I aired my personal opinion!

perhaps you should have asked why I feel that way instead of just deciding I needed a teaching moment!

from what I see, you do not live in Quebec, or Canada for that matter.. perhaps things are different here than where you live..

point of note.. if instead of paying the large monthly premiums to an insurance company, you put that money into an interest yielding account (instead of them making interest off your money), by the time you DO have an emergency.. you'd have more than enough to cover the costs.. some people go decades without making any claims.. yet once they do? their rates increase exponentially.. not to forget the rates increase yearly on the pretext of "cost of living"..

Here when we call Insurance they have Adjusters come out and at times will suggest Contractors...When we call the contractors they then deal direct with the Insurance company on repairs ect.. But in all it is still a hassle at times..

I have went several years with no Insurance on my house... So all out of pocket but still not costing me what I would have put out for insurance..

Yes I still work for my brother been there 15 years come May...

Cruises are fun, I'm a bit lucky on that my sister cruises a lot so the price she gets for a 7 day cruise on a Baloney room is $500 and under a person and she gets the drink package free... When I do go I share a room with her now.. Went on 3 cruises between Nov 2024 -March 2025.

it's always a hassel dealing with contractors and insurance.. I think they do that on purpose sometimes just to frustrate the heck outta people..

yeah well.. for me.. hindsight is 20/20.. cuz of what you said.. would have cost less long run NOT to have insurance but hey.. what's done is done huh.. no sense worrying about that now..

you ARE lucky to have your sister to jump aboard with.. and I'm jealous.. I'm still waiting to find someone to cruise with.. but departure has to be NON-USA based.. sorry but with the current climate there, I can't take any chances traveling south at this point... which sucks but.. it is what it is.. my first couple of cruises were with a friend/travel agent way back when.. sadly we've lost touch so.. not like I can just call her and go "hey.. wanna go on a cruise?"
