Do ladies take my career as a threat? I think in today's world they might?

Why do you think that? I can see it as a dangerous occupation -- on that threatens your life from time to time. Is that what you mean?

Some people think that cops and military personel are strict assholes. I am a moral person but not strict at all.

Brendon, may I answer without prejudice to you personally?

I am in Australia, so police are veiwed differently here, I am led to believe.

As a military person and/or emergency service worker, PTSD is prevalent, so that does affect a relationship. It affects both the person suffering from PTSD and the entire family.

I feel military life does so much damage to the psyche, especially in these brutal and unstable times.

I am not condemning you, just sharing my own feelings.

I would never go throught a tramatic situation and go without monitoring.

I have suffered from PTSD, yes, and know of many within the emergency services who have also suffered from it yes.

I wasn't saying you do...I was very clear to not be condemning, nor attacking you personally, but talking about the whole career paths generally.

I was just asking...I think I deal with stressful situations better than most. I do know fellow soilders that have suffered from PTSD. The ones that have let it affect the family are the guys and girls that bottle up thier problems.

I don't find it threatening at all; its attractive more than anything. I've considered the law enforcement thing before and have a little background in it but I would call myself the furthest thing from strict or uptight. Then again I have known people who are the complete opposite - they live by the rule book. However, its comforting despite what your personal philosophy or personality might be.

Sorry Brendon,

I really didn't answer your question from a personal position, I would have no challenge with a person who was within emergency services, however the military, it wouldn't happen, for me, my stance on the military, and what it has evolved to would be too conflicting to have a relationship as in romantic with anyone.

My son, and ex husband are or were military, and so I travelled in those circles, and that was in peace time, not so fortunate for my son.

Some women will actually find the fact that you are in that occupation attractive.

A lot of women are attracted to LEOs/military/emergency services... a lot are turned off by it. I don't think it really matters in the big picture.

But I really think it just comes down to the fact that a person is not defined by their career or what they do for a living. Even if most people when they have to describe themselves to others will first thing say what their career is. We just overly emphasize and idealize careers in the western world. To define someone by their career is no different than any other prejudice in my opinion. It's just a label to say you are a Policeman/Sailor/EMT/etc... it still doesn't tell me a single thing about what you are like as person really.

On the other hand there are very real impacts from having a Law Enforcement/military/emergency service career. They exact a great toll on individuals and families. And it takes a special kind of woman or man, as the case may be, to be able to deal with the realities of their lover being in service to other people before them at times. Those significant others sacrifice just as much for that career in most cases. So it's very important they are aware of what they are getting themselves involved with from the beginning.

When you add in the physical/psychological stress and danger of mortal harm... it only makes it more important that a partner understands and accepts the reality of what you do.

I would say, no matter what... even if you think it scares off some people. Be upfront with what you do with anyone you will potentially be involved with.

...and don't worry if your career is seen as a threat or poorly. You wouldn't want a woman that saw it as a threat anyway right?
