Topic: Ok, guys and gals. Let's try a light topic. | |

I don't care your beliefs or anything where you are coming from.
i just want to know where in nature you feel more conected with God, the Universe, the Original Source, or however you want to call it. FOr me is the beach and the ocean. I can spend hours over hours in contemplative prayer in a beach just hearing the waves. what is your special place in nature? |

In and on the ocean, under the stars, in the middle of the desert, in my loungeroom, in my car, standing on my deck, looking out to sea, watching wallabies graze in my fron garden, feeding the Kookaburras and butcher birds by hand.
I am always connected to Source. |

I have "thinking spots"
One is by tree by a pond out in a cow pasture (great serenity amongst the cow pies) The lake & every time I look up and see the stars, milkyway, and northern lights |

in the fall with the crisp cool air blowing in your face and the leaves falling down around you like a choreyographed[spelling?] dance, thats my connecting place

On a rainy day, I sit under my window and write my rymes. I love the rain because for some reason it calms my nerves. And it helps me sleep.

I move frequently, so I don't have a place, though I've had many places - usually at the top of a hill or mountain. I might spend an evening there, or it might be a few days, unburdened by food or words.

right outside my door having coffee with all my lil deer friends, or at night looking up at the stars......I also love the beach at 5:30 in the morning right when the sun comes up and shows the splendor of the universe.

I used to love walking in the Welsh hills, dotted with heather, small wild flowers, and the narrow, winding, tree-lined country lanes, watching the lambs in the fields. My favorite spot was a fairly small tree with wide overhead branches and a seat that circled around the trunk. A perfect respite on a hot summer afternoon. Nowadays, I enjoy the nearby beaches, either to watch the sun come up or the night sky, the gentle sound of the waves and a light breeze to cool the air. The mountains of New Hampshire, particularly in the fall, when the trees are ablaze in color. My garden, seeing the tender shoots break through the ground in spring, the first blooms, the smell of cut grass. I thank God for all the splendor of nature. |

M-
First I would like to thank you for the all-inclusive phrasing of the question. I found it quite soothing somehow... "i just want to know where in nature you feel more conected with God, the Universe, the Original Source, or however you want to call it. " I always feel especially connected to the creator of all things when I am in natural settings. Even in an urban park it is easy to see the beauty and variety of creation. But for me to be near water is especially wonderful. The beach is the best, morning, noon or night... but also lakes (especially Lake Tahoe and my grandparents lake)... streams, creeks, water falls... water soothes me. Then again, a beautiful woods to wander through, a mountain to look across and down from, a wild flower filled meadow to run thorugh, a wetland full of birds and butterflys, a shaded maritime forest, a dock on a bay... all inspire and nourish me. For me a simpler question might be, where in nature do I *not* feel connected to god? I can't think of anywhere. |
|
|
|
In the hills and valleys or when I feel lost on a winding road under the shade of trees but especially in the grove.
|
|
|
|
Pretty much anywhere, you need to focus and tune the outside away and open yourself up to prayer and let God in. I can do this while waiting at gates (airport), downtown eating at the park, anytime I feel the urge... nice thing about Dad, he is with us everywhere.

anoasis,
I second that thought. I tried to think of a special place and once I got started, I realized they are ALL special places... feralcat, not sure if you meant Wales (the hills) or New Hampshire - the mountains. There is a place called the Lost River which in places is quite shady, the rocks are enormous. I love it there, it is so peaceful, you can feel God's presence.. I am amazed to see the huge trees that grow from between the rocks, the moss, ferns, it's quite breathtaking. I took a friend of mine who was visiting from England and she sat there for some time totally in awe. You would be most welcome to stop by for a visit, if you find yourself on the East Coast. |

Britty-
Yes it seems so easy to believe in god and feel god when you look at how beautiful our home really is... I'm glad you have found places to love so much here... so many expat's get horribly homesick... |
|
|
|
It may be surprising but I was never homesick when I left there, and yet when I left New Hampshire to return to the UK for a while I was totally brokenhearted. I believe God answers prayer, and he will give us the desires of our heart. ...
I am here (my earthly home), and I constantly remind myself not to take that for granted. |

I like the seasonal cycle... having 4 is important to me, and in particular I adore the autumn. There's something special about the dying/not dead/probable to rejuvinate.
In towns, graveyards in the fall are spectacular. In the wilderness, anywhere below the tree line is great... and above the tree line for a survey is pretty cool, too. |

When I was a kid I went to Yellowstone with parents. There was this little log church beside the road. The inside was rough lumber and log walls but behind the halter was a picture window and it was a view of the Grand Teatons. It was like I was in God's church. It was almost like a reglious experince. I have be back through Yellow stone and that area several times and have never be able to find that church. It is almost like it did not exist. Like it was only a dream. It is one of those monents that will stick in my mind till the day I die. I say my spot is that little church in the mountains if I can ever find it again.

I remember thinking that it was God's Stain Glass window. The view of the tetons.

I still get chills thinking about it and it was over 40 years ago.
