I don't believe that this controversy is ridiculous. I routine get irked when minority entertainers are bypassed for awards when I believe that they deserve them. |

I don't believe that this controversy is ridiculous. I routine get irked when minority entertainers are bypassed for awards when I believe that they deserve them. I agree with you David. I don't think this issue is ridiculous at all . The reason why it isn't ridiculous is because there are too many cases of blatant racism in the world today for my people to NOT be suspicious at times when a merit list is published and none of our names are on it. Suspicion by my people in light of a history tainted with racial oppression is HUMAN . Many Caucasians continue to throw a blind eye to this history, but blindness does not make the existence of something any less REAL. I don't have an issue with my people being suspicious. Our history provokes a very visceral reaction in the way we see the world. ..BUT suspicions should not snowball into accusations before the relevant research is conducted and substantial evidence is acquired. To give more balance to this debate, I should have stated that I am.proud of Jada and Spike Lee for taking a proactive stand for diversity at the Oscars. Increased diversity is noble ideal to strive for, but I am concerned that their message is being lost because claims are being made without adequate substantiation thereby appearing like a sour grapes reaction to a personal Oscar snub. And before I am dragged off my pulpit by the forum, I want to raise the issue of fairness outside the context of racism. When Halle Berry won the academy award for best actress, I rejoiced heartily with her, but part of me wondered how come Angela Bassett or even Cicely Tyson, both highly celebrated black actresses did not receive that Oscar PRIOR to Hally Berry. They had been churning out flawless performances LONG before Halle stepped on my scene and it brings me back to my million dollar question.: What is the criteria for nominations and wins at the Oscars??? |

Gee, Peggy, I always though that your people were the Human race. Our history provokes a very visceral reaction in our reaction to the world. ..BUT suspicions should not snowball into accusations before the relevant research is conducted and substanstial evidence is acquired. To give more balance to this debate, I should have stated that I am.proud of Jada and spike lee for taking a proactive stand against racism , It is raising questions that should have been asked years ago but the message is being lost because it is not being properly substantiated
I would add that modern-day white folks in the USA have been subjected to false claims of racism for so long that they have become difficult to convince that any current claim of racism is true. |

Human Race huh? The both of us have probably filled out a thousand forms in our life time. Have either of us ever seen a category box with the title "human race" as an option? Something for us all to think about... But what you said about minorities losing credibility in their claims of racism because of false accusations ... I totally agree with you David , which is why I endorse the need for substantial evidence before the "race card" is conveniently waved around I don't know if my posts have been clear in reflecting my belief system about humanity David, but I am not a lobbyist for ANY race, including my own. I am a lobbyist for FAIRNESS. |

Peggy,
Pardon me for going off topic, but can I talk you into adjusting your Mingle2 mail filter so that your account accepts messages from people above the age of 45? I would send you a "Friend" request, but that would be futile if I couldn't send you messages. You are just too good to pass up. Anyway, in response to your last post . . . Have either of us ever seen a category box with the title "human race" as an option?
I have on the application form to join the Men in Black. |

Actually, I take that back. I think O'Shea Jackson Jr. gave an Oscar giving performance in Straight Outta Compton. It was like watching his dad exactly........

we have the image awards,,
Oscars don't need a separate show highlighting race |

Actually, I take that back. I think O'Shea Jackson Jr. gave an Oscar giving performance in Straight Outta Compton. It was like watching his dad exactly........ yea, all movies glorifying gangsters deserve an Oscar... Actually it doesn't glorify gangsters. Do you realize that the members of NWA, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy E, MC Ren, DJ Yella and The DOC were not gang members at all. They didn't even call it gangster rap, the group called it reality rap. They put their anger and inner-city frustrations into their most potent weapon imaginable, their music and became one of the most successful groups in history. Hell, Dr. Dre is the most successful and wealthiest musician in history as well. i don't care about rap... just not interested any whatsoever... |

Just because you don't care about it doesn't mean the movies not award worthy. As a matter of fact, if it weren't for NWA, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube music in general wouldn't be the same. They have effected all genres of music and movies. Dr. Dre and produced movies and also been the music supervisor for some of the biggest blockbusters in history and Ice Cube has turned in to one of the most bankable actors in Hollywood. He hasn't had a movie fail. |

It was like watching his dad exactly........ yea, all movies glorifying gangsters deserve an Oscar... of course not all but, Godfather Goodfellas The departed all fit the bill,,,, Umm, Straight Outta Compton didn't glorify gang life or gangsters at all. Also Dr. Dre and Ice Cube are both very much against it. That is why Ice Cube didn't sign with Death Row records and why Dr. Dre left Death Row Records (a company he co-founded). Their philosophy was to keep the fighting on the albums not the streets. |

Welcome to the era of entitlement, folks. Everyone’s a winner. Everyone gets a trophy. No hurt feelings.
On the flip side – we’re quickly becoming a nation that celebrates inferiority. A nation of losers. TODD STARNES |

Exactly and Oshea Jackson Jr. should have won an award for portraying his father in Straight Outta Compton, and that movie should have won an award or two. I have watched that movie a few times and the three main actors all played the parts AMAZING, at one point I really thought I was looking at Ice Cube, Eazy E, Dr. Dre and Jerry Heller and the movie took very few artistic liberties. It was almost dead on accurate, which is rare for a movie based on a true story. |

“Jada got mad, Jada says she’s not coming, protesting, I’m like — doesn’t she have a TV show? Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited,” Rock quipped. "
http://www.webpronews.com/jada-pinkett-smith-finds-an-ally-in-tyrese-for-chris-rocks-oscars-dig-2016-03/ At least that comment of Chris Rock's is true. |
