This puts questions in my mind.

Why attack only the Christian holiday(s)?
(I do not get offended by other people's holidays, I have been fortunate to share many Jewish holidays.)

Is it just about the holiday, or is there another reason?

If a person is against others saying Happy Christmas, why, where did that idea originate? Are they consistent with that thought?

Who benefits from it being abolished? Why?

What would replace it?

Do the people who resent it now, want a replacement? Has that been considered?

Everyone is entitled to their ideas, opinions, and beliefs. I do not expect answers to be posted, they are NOT being debated. Just food for thought.

I got this in an email, so if you've seen it, I apologize. But it has so much truth, that I wanted to share it with those who haven't read it.

Dear Children:

It has come to my attention that many of you are upset
that folks are taking My name out of the season.
Maybe you've forgotten that I wasn't actually born
during this time of the year and that it was some of
your predecessors who decided to celebrate My
birthday on what was actually a time of pagan
festival. Although I do appreciate being remembered
anytime.

How I personally feel about this celebration can
probably be most easily understood by those of you
who have been blessed with children of your own. I
don't care what you call the day. If you want to
celebrate My birth, just GET ALONG AND LOVE ONE
ANOTHER.

Now, having said that let Me go on. If it bothers
you that the town in which you live doesn't allow a
scene depicting My birth, then just get rid of a
couple of Santas and snowmen and put in a small
Nativity scene on your own front lawn. If all My
followers did that there wouldn't be any need for
such a scene on the town square because there would
be many of them all around town.

Stop worrying about the fact that people are calling
the tree a holiday tree, instead of a Christmas
tree. It was I who made all trees. You can remember
Me anytime you see any tree. Decorate a grape vine
if you wish: I actually spoke of that one in a
teaching, explaining who I am in relation to you and
what each of our tasks were. If you have forgotten
that one, look up John 15: 1 - 8.
If you want to give Me a present in remembrance of
My birth here is my wish list. Choose something from it:

1. Instead of writing protest letters objecting to
the way My birthday is being celebrated, write
letters of love and hope to soldiers away from home.
They are terribly afraid and lonely this time of
year. I know, they tell Me all the time.

2. Visit someone in a nursing home. You don't have
to know them personally. They just need to know that
someone cares about them.

3. Instead of writing George complaining about the
wording on the cards his staff sent out this year,
why don't you write and tell him that you'll be
praying for him and his family this year. Then
follow up. It will be nice hearing from you again.

4. Instead of giving your children a lot of gifts
you can't afford and they don't need, spend time
with them. Tell them the story of My birth, and why
I came to live with you down here. Hold them in your
arms and remind them that I love them.

5. Pick someone that has hurt you in the past and
forgive him or her.

6. Did you know that someone in your town will
attempt to take their own life this season because
they feel so alone and hopeless? Since you don't
know who that person is, try giving everyone you
meet a warm smile; it could make the difference.

7. Instead of nit picking about what the retailer in
your town calls the holiday, be patient with the
people who work there. Give them a warm smile and a
kind word. Even if they aren't allowed to wish you a
"Merry Christmas" that doesn't keep you from wishing
them one. Then stop shopping there on Sunday. If the
store didn't make so much money on that day they'd
close and let their employees spend the day at home
with their families

8. If you really want to make a difference, support
a missionary-- especially one who takes My love and
Good News to those who have never heard My name.

9. Here's a good one. There are individuals and
whole families in your town who not only will have
no "Christmas" tree, but neither will they have any
presents to give or receive. If you don't know them,
buy some food and a few gifts and give them to the
Salvation Army or some other charity which believes
in Me and they will make the delivery for you.

10. Finally, if you want to make a statement about
your belief in and loyalty to Me, then behave like a
Christian. Don't do things in secret that you
wouldn't do in My presence. Let people know by your
actions that you are one of mine.

Don't forget; I am God and can take care of Myself.
Just love Me and do what I have told you to do. I'll
take care of all the rest. Check out the list above
and get to work; time is short. I'll help you, but
the ball is now in your court. And do have a most
blessed Christmas with all those whom you love and
remember : I LOVE YOU, JESUS

You're welcome. You know, when I first began to read that, I felt a bit offended, I thought someone was going to put down God or Christmas. But the further I read, the better I liked it, and found that I agreed with most of it!
I still will say "Merry Christmas!" It is, after all, what we are celebrating!
I copied your post about "Merry Christmas" or "happy holidays" and posted in a bullitin on My Space. I keep up with my grandkids and some fellow students on there, so I thougnt this was a good way to get that info spread even further.

The old meaning of CHRISTMAS:
Just a week before Christmas I had a visitor. This is how it happened. I just finished the household chores for the night and was preparing to go to bed when I heard a noise in the front of the house. I opened the door to the front room, and to my surprise, Santa himself stepped out from behind the Christmas tree. He placed his finger over his mouth so I would not cry out. "What are you doing?" I started to ask him.

The words choked in my throat, as I saw he had tears in his eyes. His usual jolly manner was gone. Gone was the eager boisterous soul we all know. He then answered me with a simple statement, TEACH THE CHILDREN! I was puzzled: What did he mean? He anticipated my question, and with one quick movement brought forth a miniature toy bag from behind the tree.

As I stood there bewildered, Santa said, Teach the Children! Teach them the old meaning of Christmas. The meaning that a now-a-day Christmas has forgotten!

Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a FIR TREE and placed it on the mantle. Teach the Children that the pure green color of the stately fir tree remains green all year round, depicting the everlasting hope of mankind. All the needles point heavenward, making it a symbol of man's thoughts turning
toward heaven.

He again reached into his bag and pulled out a brilliant STAR. Teach the Children that the star was the heavenly sign of promises long ago. God promised a Savior for the world, and the star was the sign of fulfillment of that promise.

He then reached into the bag and pulled out a CANDLE. Teach the Children that the candle symbolizes that Christ is the light of the world, and when we see this great light we are reminded of He who displaces the darkness.

Once again he reached into his bag and then removed a WREATH and placed it on the tree. Teach the Children that the wreath symbolizes the eternal nature of love. Real love never ceases. Love is one continuous round of affection.

He then pulled out from his bag an ornament of HIMSELF. Teach the Children that Santa Claus symbolizes the generosity and good will we feel during the month of December.

He reached in again and pulled out a HOLLY LEAF. Teach the Children the holly plant represents immortality. It represents the crown of thorns worn by our Savior. The red holly berries represent blood shed by Him.

Next he pulled out a GIFT from the bag and said, "Teach the Children that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift. Teach the Children that the wise men bowed before the holy babe and presented Him with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. We should give gifts in the same spirit as the wise men."

Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a CANDY CANE and hung it on the tree. Teach the Children that the candy cane represents the shepherd's crook. The crook on the shepherd's staff helps bring back strayed sheep from the flock. The candy cane is the symbol that we are our brother's keeper.

He reached in again and pulled out an ANGEL. Teach the Children that it was the angels that heralded in the glorious news of the Savior's birth. The angels sang 'Glory to God in the highest, on earth, peace and good will.'

Suddenly I heard a soft twinkling sound, and from his bag he pulled out a BELL. Teach the Children that as the lost sheep are found by the sound of a bell, it should bring people to the fold. The bell symbolizes guidance and return.

Santa looked at the tree and was pleased. He looked back at me and I saw the twinkle was back in his eyes. He said, "Remember, teach the Children the true meaning of Christmas, and not to put me in the center, for I am but a humble servant of the One who is, and I bow down and worship Him, our Lord, our God."

It's not that I am begrudging anyone's Holiday I just would like the same respect for mine.

Debbie, I got this one last Christmas, and I really enjoyed it! I'm glad I saw you post it today, cause I might have posted it myself later!
As to others begrudging your holiday...I've only been at JSH for a few days, and I've already seen several instances of people who seem to use the site to deliberately attempt to start "discussions" with Christians, when their real goal is obviously to make fun of all things having to do with God. I feel sorry for them, cause like Jesus said from the cross, they know not what they do. One day they will know, and I pray that it will be before it is too late.
There are also some very friendly people here, which is why I keep coming back!

yes countryangel you are so right....I know the path I took is a narrow one...But one I walk gladly......I honestly think that everything the stores are doing come down to the mighty buck...I know I see this happen every year and every year people will still celebrate Jesus Christ's birthday.....So they can take whatever they want away but since he is in our heart's they will never win.

I did love the one I posted I bawled like a baby the first time I saw it.

I have been told I am in error to interpret the Bible as saying that Adam walked with God in the cool of the morning. That is the way I read it. Adam lost his great job of looking after the Garden. I have gotten back that job thanks to the saving grace of the blood of Jesus on the cross at Calvary. I can now once again walk in the cool of the day as Adam, the first man, did with God. I am thankful to be able to commune with the almighty One. As the light just starts to come to a new day, I thank God for getting me this far. I thank Him or the friends I have. I ask Him to look after my dear friend Winnie, the saint Britty, the trooper Wouldee and the mother of all good things, the stray cat lady.
I ask that His will be done. Those who are asking for love and affection, I ask, Lord, if it be Your will that they find that loving person.
I give my all-and-all. I ask only to be used and used well. I ask to, if it be His will, be a blessing to someone today. If it be His will, I ask to be the answer to someone’s prayer. Today is a day the Lord hath made. I am rejoicing and I am extremely glad to be here and now. Let me make the most of the time I have been given. Let my works bring glory to God.
