You know Tulip; you have been so frank and forthright and talking here has become a healing experience for me also. Now I feel compelled to share my bit of experience so here's a flashback on fathers and since we have what is largely an American audience let me begin with..

So George Washington cuts down this apple tree and Sr. Washington surveys the wreck and asks 'Who did this?', and little George (in all his innocence?) proudly says: "It is I". The story I heard goes no further. We do know that Senior did not give him a thwack on the head nor declare that there won't be no more apple pies for you. Instead, we can imagine him getting down to his young fella's level and explaining; "Look George, good job but the tree belongs to the English King. Now how do I explain this to His Majesty?" Rest as we know is history.

In my personal life, nothing so grand but way back as a kid I wanted to drive the car. It was in the seventies, Dad had bought this new Ambassador car which was not run during the week and the battery ran down by the weekends. So this weekend morning while cleaning it up he gave me permission to 'charge the battery'. This meant that I could sit in the driver's seat, start up and pedal the accelerator for a few minutes.

I did that, pressed down the accelerator, looked at the amp gauge and before I knew it the car had crashed into the wooden gate and stalled. I had forgotten to check whether the gear was in 'neutral'; it had been set in reverse.

Next thing I remember w's pushing open the door and running like hell was chasing me, down to the backyard where my Mom was and ran up behind her & hung on her leg. "what happened", I wouldn't speak but frantically held on to her. Then Dad came around; he is 6 feet tall to my what, I was 12 year shorty; waist high to my Mom so I must have been 3 feet something. Anyway instead of grabbing me, as I peaked from behind my Mom, he was grinning "what happened", she asked and he said the car's ok, the gate is damaged.

Later that night, my Mom explained what I had known all along, my Dad was right between the car and the gate; cleaning up, when I pressed down the accelerator. He managed to move out in the nick.

So what's the point in this story. All this happened a hundred years ago but i saw the connection today. Ok, so I'm a bit of a coward but let's see when things go wrong, I don't seem to be able to get into a blame-game; anger yes, but I don't itch to draw a gun.

Boys seem to have this need to experiment around; trial and error stuff becomes a bit more safer when father's are around. All this came as a flash today; just thinking over Tulip's son and my own kid and how every Mom wants to deny 'time out with those 'vagabond' fathers'.

I trust some of the ladies here, who feel let down by their abusive ex- can sense what i mean.

Men cut lose may appear to take it in their stride. If they took time to think, it would be like what Lee Marvin said..

Your words are so heartfelt, Jai. Unless there is an extreme circumstance, no parent should ever be denied time with a child. Many times I see parents hold the child hostage just to get child support. This is wrong on so many levels, the two have nothing to do with the other. Other times, the parent uses the failed relationship/anger as an excuse to keep the child from the other. Wrong again as that is the parents' failure not the child's. The child always loses in the end.

The child sees & feels more than you think. So my wish is for parents to play nice, fake it if you have to and raise that child together as it should be.

I got the state to handle the money issue so now I have a middleman. Works great for me, less stress. Just a note, no state involvement would have been necessary if they had cared enough to make necessary payments, which were not excessive amounts.

That's a great story about the car. Glad your dad got out of the way. I had to move a motor home for my dad when I was about 12; never drove a car before, just small gocarts. I pushed gas & break and that monstrosity took off creating 5 inch tire ruts in the yard. Hehehe. My dad is old school - he catch you, you gettin' a butt whoopin'! He always let us pick out which belt - hahaha! So I got out that motor home & hauled @ss! I could hear my dad hollering at me the whole time. hahaha

Well, I do wish you the best with your child! I'm sure you are a fantastic father! I watched the vid. Don't be those sad fellows!

I just want to let everyone know that all my problems, or late, are resolved!! I have my insurance now which means I get my medicine, lab work, and medical supplies this month. Such a relief!

My child support is coming to me now; huge relief!!! My ex has calmed down again and bringing me food again; fried chicken - yummy! I even have my youngest son for this weekend; first time in a month. I always have him each school week but it's hard to do really fun stuff like go to the park & such. So we are going to the park tomorrow, for sure!!

As far as I my cancer, the tumor in my colon and liver reduced 50% so far. I will find out November 2nd if there is any more progress; fingers crossed. I also get chemo that whole week.

I think my allergy is to mosquito bites so I am taking precautions & getting better. The oatmeal treatment saves me; thanks Texasgal! With chemo, you get some strange side effects, especially with your immunity.

Well, I just wanted to take time to give anyone interested an update and to thank you from the bottom of my heart for each & every one of your kind words!!

Be well!

Tulip
