I grew up in that era too.. in NYC and Ludes were rampant. But what I remember seeing was not cheerful on the floor giggling people... it was flat out .. on the floor. Out cold people. That's why the drug was nicknamed.. DOWNS.

Does anyone else who grew up in era and have experience seeing the effects of ludes remember the cheerful, giggling on the floor party atmosphere that MS is describing?...to where people who took ludes ( downs) were in fact alert, in control of themselves. or what was happening around them.

Judd Apatow has been vocal about condemning Bill Cosby over the countless sexual assault claims against the comedian. And a week after unsealed court documents from 2005 revealed Cosby obtained drugs to provide to women before having sex with them, Apatow has spoken out again, calling the scandal "one of the most tragic things that's happened in our business."

The 47-year-old writer-director sat down with Today anchor Willie Geist on Monday to promote his upcoming comedy Trainwreck, but he struck a more serious note during the conversation when asked about the television icon's spiraling legal drama. Cosby's lawyer, Marty Singer, has denied the allegations of sexual assault, saying in a statement in November after multiple accusers spoke out against the actor: "This is utter nonsense. People coming out of nowhere with this sort of inane yarn is what happens in a media-driven feeding frenzy."

"You have been – whether you wanted this role or not in our society – you've been the leading voice going after Bill Cosby in the wake of all these allegations by women against him. Is that something you did consciously?" Geist asked.

"Not really, but I just kept noticing that no one else was saying that this was a bad thing, and there was just such a giant vacuum. I would have loved to not talk about it, but it's incredibly sad," Apatow explained. "And I do think we have to stand up for the women and say, 'We believe you.' "

And as for Cosby, the Girls producer said, "We don't have to worry about him."

"A lot of people got terribly hurt. When you go out on a date, you don't need seven prescriptions for quaaludes. I'm in show business. Famous people can meet women without the enormous prescriptions," Apatow continued.

"I think we all should be very hesitant about getting involved in anything. But when it's 40 people, it certainly is time for everybody to wake up and say, 'We should be concerned about the women.' "

Apatow also recently asked that Cosby's loyal defenders instead turn their support to the sex-assault victims now that there is concrete evidence uncovered in court excerpts from the 2005 case, in which he was accused by former Temple University employee Andrea Constand of drugging her and sexually assaulting her. (In 2005 and 2006, PEOPLE investigated Constand's allegations and interviewed numerous accusers. Through his longtime publicist, Cosby responded that he had no comment at the time.)

On Thursday, Apatow issued a series of Tweets directed at Whoopi Goldberg, asking her to accept the legal facts of the scandal rather than try to remain a "loyal friend" to Cosby.

Apatow's friend and colleague Lena Dunham also spoke out in support of his comments, Tweeting on Sunday, "I love knowing an angry hairy feminist like @JuddApatow !"

"It takes Hollywood far too long to believe survivors, and even longer to stop defending the men who make the money. A simple and sad truth," she continued in a separate Tweet.

A Chicago-based rape-survivor group has launched a White House petition encouraging the Obama administration to revoke Cosby's Presidential Medal of Freedom, a coveted honor bestowed on individuals for their contributions to society.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Thursday, "I don't know at this point whether or not it's possible," when asked if the administration could in fact rescind Cosby's 2002 medal. (It would be unprecedented to revoke a Medal of Freedom award.)

You have some good points about the TV shows.
I think the Collin crime/scandal is just old news now. And that is why no one mentioned it here. And the re-runs ran on mostly Christian Family Networks.. so most people may not be familiar with " 7th Heaven" or Collin.

The Cosby Show, ran on many channels & Bill Cosby did so much Comedy & Movies... that he was like a superstar. And he did lots of work & gave lots of speeches about being a good parent & education etc..
So... when he first denied the allegations (1986-2005), most people WANTED to believe him. But now.. by his own words he is guilty & viewed as a hypocrite. And their are so many victims.

People get very attached to their favorite shows. Even " Little House On The Prairie ", with Michael Landon. He cheated on his wife, of over 20 years, divorced her & married a younger woman with bleach blonde hair. I remember, because my grandmother stopped watching the show. People boycotted, wrote letters, & even protested the show.
Even pastors told their congrations not to watch him or any of his shows, including Bonanza. But back then... adultery , fornication, divorce were scandalous.

I think actors/ actresses make their name & money off the public & should not be surprised when the public is disappointed in them, especially for a crime.

A predator is a predator. No matter if the animal is human or not.
They look for the young (like Cosby), the neive ( like Cosby), the weak & or impressionable ( like Cosby)... the sick, the old, the alone, the unwanted, the unloved, the uneducated, desperate, poor, separated from the pack/ herd.. etc..

They have no mercy for their victims, they choose there victims. .I don't have any mercy for any criminal... for age or conditions... any more than a predator has for their victim.

Two women who claim they were sexually assaulted by Bill Cosby said Monday they are joining an effort to unseal an entire 2005 deposition he gave, in which he admitted giving Quaaludes to women with whom he wanted to have sex.

Beth Ferrier and Rebecca Lynn Neal, who both claim they were drugged and sexually assaulted by the comedian decades ago, said they are joining the effort by a woman who sued Cosby in 2005 in Pennsylvania.

Attorney Gloria Allred, who represents 17 alleged Cosby victims, said her firm filed a memorandum in support of efforts to release Cosby's entire transcript to see what he stated about them.

"We will pursue Mr. Cosby until the full truth comes out," said Ferrier, who alleges she was assaulted in Denver in 1986 and is one of 13 Jane Does in the 2005 case.

"It is important for the world to know the truth that Bill Cosby hunted me like a predator... in recently released excepts he admits he was with me in Denver and he probably had sex with me," she said Monday at a Los Angeles news conference with Allred.

Ferrier, who was Jane Doe No. 5, has said she believes Cosby had sex with her after putting a drug in her coffee. Ferrier said she told the National Enquirer in 2005, but the tabloid did not run her story, instead choosing to publish an interview with the performer.

Allred said the women are seeking to have the entire deposition unsealed so they can defend themselves. She said neither of the women took any drugs voluntarily.

Neal said she was assaulted by Cosby in 1983 when she a masseur at a Las Vegas health club.

"I am surprised he does not remember me," she said during the news conference. "He wanted me to come to a show."

Neal says she was so drugged, her roommate found her the next day in her car.

"I didn't wake up until the next evening," she said.

She broke down in tears Monday as she recounted the times she would see Cosby on TV.

"I thought, who would believe me that Bill Cosby was a serial rapist who used drugs to assault unsuspecting women," she said.

The 2005 lawsuit was filed by a Temple University staffer, who claimed Cosby drugged and groped her during a 2004 visit to his Philadelphia home.

During that case, 13 other women, including Ferrier and Neal, came forward with similar stories. But the Temple University woman's attorney settled the case out of court in 2006.

Her attorneys have now asked that the entire deposition be made public because, they argue, Cosby has violated a confidential agreement.

A judge last week unsealed part of Cosby's deposition contained in court motions at the request of the Associated Press.

Attorneys for Cosby, 77, are currently asking the California Supreme Court to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a woman who alleges she was molested as a 15-year-old at the Playboy Mansion in 1974.

Judy Huth, who has publicly identified herself, is one of 47 women to accuse the comedian of sexual abuse. But most are beyond the statute of limitations.

Los Angeles police interviewed Huth, but prosecutors determined it was beyond statute from 1972, as has been the case so far with accusations nationwide.

Cosby also faces a defamation suit by model Janice Dickinson for his team's response after she accused him of attacking her.

John Manly, an attorney who has handled hundreds of civil sexual abuse cases, said Cosby's deposition may prove even more helpful in Dickinson's defamation suit against Cosby.

"There is no legitimate reason he would be giving women Quaaludes before sex except to suppress their ability to consent,” he said. “I would expect law enforcement to take a serious look at Mr. Cosby.”

Los Angeles police are also investigating a 2008 allegation.

In the mid-1970s, bars in Manhattan called "juice bars" sprang up that only served non-alcoholic drinks that catered to people who liked to dance while under the influence of Methaqualone.
