I have been told many times in the last 5 years that I am an A-type personality. I looked up that definition and I truly don't believe I am. However, there IS this little thing that ANNOYS ME!!!
When I see soooooooooooooo many misspellings and typos on a dating site. ( I know, some peeps are here merely for friendship).

It just annoys me to see SOOOO MUCH of it in a place where we strive to be our best so we can match up with someone. Does it take too much effort to simply re-read what you have typed before you hit send? Does it take too much effort to click open another window to search for the correct spelling of a word when your software automatically underlines in red that you have spelled something wrong? Does it take too much effort to search for the definition of a word if you are not sure how it's used?

I guess it is.

Don't get me wrong.....I TOO MAKE MISTAKES....yes, it's true noway noway
...no, no, don't try to say otherwise bigsmile flowerforyou

Just because you get annoyed with wrong spelling, grammar, and punctuation, doesn't make you type A. flowerforyou

I agree with you, with perhaps the exception where English is not a person's first language, often the case on an international dating site, and the sad thing is a misspelling prevents some one finding the word in the dictionary should they need to look up the meaning.

I remember when working for a large multinational company, and emails first came in to use, the company issued a code of practice stating all emails had to be set out as you would a memo or letter. After only a short while, emails between coworkers became very informal, more like very short notes and many typed completely in lowercase, few typists among us then, although the spelling was usually correct.

I try hard not to make spelling mistakes, but I'm dyslexic, so I have a good excuse if I mis-spell a word. It's not even an excuse. laugh. It's real. I tried my level best, to make sure that my profile is readable. I sure hope it is.

When I see soooooooooooooo many misspellings and typos on a dating site. ( I know, some peeps are here merely for friendship).

People are here for emotional reasons.
Not logical or rational ones.

Not to mention, a lot of people sign on with their phone or tablet.
Finger poke editing and auto filled words can be a huge pain.

Does it take too much effort to simply re-read what you have typed before you hit send?

Sometimes.
People can feel a lot of stress when they are sending emails.
Same stress as picking up someone in public.
Fear of rejection, fear of not getting a response, fear of saying the wrong thing, time pressure or fear of them signing off and just disappearing.

People will type it as quickly as possible and send it off to lessen the stress involved in doing it.

Also, a lot of people on dating sites see their emails as a direct and immediate personal conversation (e.g.We were talking and they just stopped responding! At least have the decency to reply to a first contact!)
Just as they wouldn't stop in the middle of verbally saying something to ask the correct pronunciation, spelling, or grammatical rules, they don't do it for emails.
They aren't typing something up so much as talking with their hands.
They just type it up as quickly as the words enter the mind and send it off.

I know I am not a type A personality and I usually don't get along with those who are, like my oldest brother. As far as grammar goes, I do my best and it bothers me when so many really don't care. It's not the worst thing. It has happened a few times that I have misspelled a word on here and I retry several times until I finally get out the dictionary. It turns out, my first attempt was correct. Computers are not always right, but I am less forgiving of myself.

no not at all type A,
and no, misspellings do not evoke an emotional response. they could be typos too

plus English is not everyone's first language here. typically I chose very selectively what to get worked up about...like it very seldom happens that I get worked up about anything, really

In language communication;there are 3 basic areas:to speak;to read and to write. These aspects are interconnected and they are complementary too.

In written language(orthography, semantics and syntax);people can write formally and correctly if they know those rules.Others can write with faults;if they don't know completely those same rules.Others can write in an informal manner by "personal style".

Then; we have A,B,C,.....in this world and we must understand all the differences between people. And this site is all-colors and all-levels.

Sounds as though the people who are annoyed with you for being annoyed about spelling, are the lazy type, who didn't bother to look up the meaning of "Type A personality" before accusing you of being one. They probably just heard others complaining about someone being "type A," and thought it meant "fussy."

Anyway, you are assuredly NOT Type A, from what I see here.

On the other side of the actual spelling stuff...

I have a love/hate relationship with spellcheck. I like that it catches stuff, as you say, but I HATE that it can't recognize context. If I type here in place of hear, due not to my ignorance, but to my darn auto-piloted fingers, spellcheck will fail to catch it every time.

The I is right next to the O on all keyboards, so it's VERY easy to input TOME when I mean TIME, or vice versa, and no autocheck program will find it.

I find I can make what appear to be grammar errors, but are actually typos, again because the auto-check programs see only one word at a time.

So I would suggest a LITTLE more patience in some situations.

Your not Type A, your OCD!laugh

Actually, I am right there with you about the spelling thing.
This may well be an international site, and if your profile says your from a non-English speaking country, then sure, I'll be happy to cut you some slack.
But if you're trying to pass yourself off as a local, spelling errors and awkward sentence structure says scammer to me.
Personally I'm looking for someone who demonstrates a little more attention to detail- or as I like to call it, the 'Give-a-damn gene'.
