I really think they dont want to do their jobs UNLESS it involves an unchecked authority to kill people,,,, That sort of attitude is what makes things worse. I agree, their attitude does make it worse I wasn't talking about their attitude. how is it worse to aknowledge that some cops are such cowards that they cant do the job well unless they feel they will have the freedom to kill with impunity at any 'threat',,, You are not acknowledging. You are accusing. the same way I might 'accuse' michael jordan of being a great athlete,,,lol stating the obvious, judging on actions,,,and the fact that qualifying most any statement with 'some' makes it hard to refute its truth,, if it pertains to human beings and anything they are capable of doing,, So...you can make generalizations about the cops in Baltimore, but not the people who caused all this trouble to begin with?.....That's such a liberal idea....lol who said they cant ? Since the riots began in Baltimore, and the black people declared war(pretty much) on the cops of Baltimore city...there have been 51 murders. 47 were black people. Obviously, the cops aren't allowed to(or are afraid to) do their jobs for fear of accusations of racism. And the people continue the violence.... What now? What can they do? I actually agreed with the rioting in Baltimore becauae without nothing would have happened. I'd love to know were you got your stats from by the way. |

I actually agreed with the rioting in Baltimore becauae without nothing would have happened. Me too, people should be able to have the type of communities that they want. Like they have in South Africa.

Today (CNN)— Forty-two people were killed in Baltimore in May, making it the deadliest month there since 1972. When asked what's behind that number, a Baltimore police officer gave an alarming answer. Basically, he said, the good guys are letting the bad guys win. "The criminal element feels as though that we're not going to run the risk of chasing them if they are armed with a gun, and they're using this opportunity to settle old beefs, or scores, with people that they have conflict with," the officer said. "I think the public really, really sees that they asked for a softer, less aggressive police department, and we have given them that, and now they are realizing that their way of thinking does not work." He was one of two active Baltimore police officers who spoke to CNN on Tuesday about crime in their city. They also touched on the death of Freddie Gray, a young black man who died in police custody, and the riots that followed. The officers were not given permission to speak from their department. Because of that, and in an attempt to allow them to talk candidly, CNN agreed on their condition of anonymity. Both said the Baltimore Police Department is simply reacting to events instead of being proactive. They talked about feeling abandoned by their leadership and feeling scared -- not about being hurt, necessarily, but about being charged criminally for doing what they see as their job. Six officers have been charged in Gray's death, which has been ruled a homicide . "Ultimately, it does a disservice to the law-abiding citizens. It does a disservice to the business owners. It does a disservice to everybody except the criminal element," the second officer said about operating in reactive mode. He denied the existence of a work slowdown but said he couldn't promise proactive policing. "Even though you have reasonable suspicion," he said, "nine out of 10 times, that officer is going to keep on driving." City and police officials have repeatedly denied any stand-down order was given to officers after of Gray's death. 'They feel betrayed' Worry has overtaken a lot of officers, and now morale is low, said Lt. Kenneth Butler, who heads a police union in Baltimore, the Vanguard Justice Society. "They feel as though, if I make a mistake -- which we all do make mistakes -- then what is this administration going to do to me?" he told CNN's Miguel Marquez. "Am I going to be the next one to be suspended? Am I going to be the next one who is going to be criminally charged?" One officer called the union leader to ask if he'd be liable if a suspect he was chasing ran into traffic and got hit by a car, Butler said. He couldn't answer the question, so the officer told Butler he'd stop pursuing suspects on foot for now. Normally, officers would do their duty more robustly, Butler said, but they don't feel like their leadership has their back anymore. "A lot of guys ... they feel betrayed," he said. |

hypothetical questions may work too
what do you do if you are called to break up unruly teens at a pool party? a. disperse the crowd as peacefully as possible b. immediately chase and round up whomever you can while pulling a gun to make sure you are safe what do you do if you pull someone for a traffic violation and they exit , on foot, and run? a. give chase and call for backup with your location b. give chase and if he doesnt stop and give in , begin shooting to 'effect' your arrest what do you do if you give chase to suspects in a car and they drive into a parking lot and make some gesture inside the car a. empty your gun into the car to be sure you are safe,, and then reload and jump on the hood and fire some more if the car moves b. take cover where you are safe and attempt to take out the car until you can verify who else is in the car ,,,,,ya know? just what seems like simple common sense/ respect for human life type questions,,, |

"" BALTIMORE — Lawyers for six Baltimore police officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray demanded the removal of the city's top prosecutor from their case on Tuesday, saying she was the one who asked for "enhanced" police attention at the intersection where they encountered the young black man. An email sent to police weeks before Gray died from the spinal injury he suffered in police custody shows State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby has a conflict of interest, the attorneys argued, because she had wanted police to target North Avenue and Mount Street, the intersection in West Baltimore where Gray ran from police on April 12. The defense motion filed Tuesday says Mosby "is now an integral part of the story ... both as an advocate and a witness." Officers caught up to Gray two blocks away, restrained him and put him in a police van that made several stops before reaching the station roughly 45 minutes later. By then, he was unresponsive, and died after a week in a coma. Mosby charged the officers May 1 with crimes ranging from misdemeanor assault to second- degree "depraved-heart" murder. Mosby also said Gray's arrest was illegal because officers handcuffed him prior to discovering the knife that became the basis for the charges. On March 17, Joshua Rosenblatt, division chief of Mosby's crime strategies unit, emailed Police Cmdr. Osborne Robinson, saying "Mosby asked me to look into community concerns regarding drug dealing in the area of North Ave. and Mount St." In the email, Rosenblatt praised earlier police efforts there, and said "we'd like to build on that success by targeting that intersection for enhanced prosecutorial (and hopefully police) attention." Robinson forwarded Rosenblatt's email on March 20 to his lieutenants, including Brian Rice, who is charged with reckless endangerment, assault and misconduct in office in Gray's death, and said he would be monitoring their results. "You will conduct a daily narcotics initiative addressing North and Mount St. Your units need to utilize the cameras, activate/develop informants, conduct covert, etc.," Robinson wrote.
