Topic: Do pickup lines work?

do they really work?

They do if they are attracted to you, have their guard down, and/or your body language doesn't make them uncomfortable.

But I don't really know what you mean by "work."

Did it work if she doesn't try to stab you?
Talks to you without looking like she's looking for an exit?
A little bit of polite conversation?
Waits a couple of minutes before ditching you?
Gives you her number?
Sleeps with you?
Marries you and has your kids?
Donates a kidney?
Becomes the galactic overlord and bequeaths to you the entire planet earth to rule as your playground filling the oceans with space jell-o?

What would you consider it working?

How can you begin your comment with "They do [work] if"...then follow that with "I don't know what you mean by work"?

Can you clarify this contradiction in your statement?

What do you mean by attracted to you? What do you mean by having their guard down? What do you mean and/or your body language makes them feel uncomfortable?

Let's go ahead and split all the hairs while we've got out the magnifying glass.

Agreed no birds or pecking rofl

Out of curiosity, what exactly is your aversion to chickens?

And, is it chickens or all birds?

Yes, but then again, if she is likely to do that I would rather know up front so I don't waste my time.

Talks to you without looking like she's looking for an exit?

Yes

A little bit of polite conversation?

Sure

Waits a couple of minutes before ditching you?

That would be better than nothing.

Gives you her number?

Possibly

Sleeps with you?

Possibly in time, but not that night. I'm over the whole one night stand thing.

Marries you and has your kids?

No, and no. I don't want to get married again and I don't want more kids then I have.

Donates a kidney?

I don't need one. lol

Becomes the galactic overlord and bequeaths to you the entire planet earth to rule as your playground filling the oceans with space jell-o?

That would be awesome!

What would you consider it working?

In short, giving me a chance to chat.

Does that clear up your confusion?

Having managed a night club when I was barely legal age and then lived/worked around military for years, been on line over 40 there are very few pick up lines I don't have memorized but it is always in the delivery.

If it is the right mix of humor, flirt, and timing it can be a huge boost to the odds of getting a little attention.

The follow through better be with offering a handshake and a more direct introduction first and maybe last name or I will probably figure they are just playing the game.

Only thing I that really makes for a bad take away is if a guy bombs or acts like he is all that and a bag of chips if I try to "flip the script" and or best him with a cute comeback. More than once I have shot a guy down in a nice way and if he took it well (say I am out with friends or a date)I will make a point of hooking him up with a friend or flirting when it is appropriate.

So, there I am a few hours ago in the checkout line at the grocery store with 11 items in the 10 items or less lane because I'm a rebel like that. A woman gets in queue behind me with a single package of diced watermelon in her hand.

I offer to let her go ahead of me because, despite being an outlaw, I am still a gentleman.

She says, "Oh, that's okay, you're fine"

To which I respond, "Thank you. I've been working out and wasn't sure it was showing yet."

She didn't fall in love but it did give her a giggle.

It's a club where you "might" get lucky if your pick up lines are tight!

ROFLMBO Well that is a pretty good pick up line if I ever heard one. Would be even better if I came from Sparta Georgia but alas I am from Atlanta.

I'll be honest. If it's a funny pick-up line? It'll probably work with me...happy

After this tread has went on for so long I have come to a conclusion for myself.

While pickup lines seem to work for my intended purpose of being an ice breaker. I realize I don't have the kind of personality need to make such thing work. ohwell Unless cory humor is what does it for the other person. Then I'm golden. happy

This one just made me laugh

and when she responds with "it looks clingy and hard to maintain"

for almost every pickup line out there are also retorts that will make you wish you went for originality instead

Any quick search will give you a multitude of pickup lines that are so bad they are funny, but do they really work?

i've had someone say mine were adorable....then again i've had someone beg me to stop too..

They'll only work on me, if I'm already attracted to the person saying those lines. One time, I didn't expect a man I really fancied, to flirt with me. He just suddenly asked me if I fancied him. Maybe I was giving him subconscious signals, without noticing. Or he just wanted to know.

rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl

...this kinda thing would at least get me to talking, no doubt. I also agree with Basha...almost anything funny would work on me.
I am a people-watcher, so if a guy starting talking to me with something sarcastic/funny about someone, then I would certainly be intrigued.
