Topic: Tiny houses | |

The whole idea has to do with that people have too much stuff they don't need. Big space is not the American dream. I don't have a lot of stuff, pets or kids. Why do I need a lot of space? It's called simple living and downsizing. It sounds good to me. Ohh and smaller houses on smaller lots is happening here as well to combat urban sprawl... Bingo they are popping up more and more in the tight urban areas.. Some of the price tags are staggering.. I am like I am not paying that for that.. I couldn't do it anyway I has a stash of material.. And I was recently told I was a shoe and hat sl^t... |

I have been following the Tiny House Movement on line. Families of 5 are living in 300 sq ft. I have thought, I might try it, but I would want a small/ about 200 sq ft to have bed, bath , kitchen and social room. But I would have two or three 12 X 10 ft storage buildings to house my hobbies/ collections. The would not have any trouble fitting on my two acres, but would cut down on utility cost and time cleaning. There are these neat 2 liter bottles with water in them you put in the roof and use for lighting (done in India and Asia. Loft would have to be for storage or grandchildren's guest room. I don't want to climb ladder/ stairs at night.

I love the tiny house movement!
I have been collecting ideas for ages and would love the opportunity to custom build one. The ideas have really come along and there are many variations on the theme. I have gotten to place in my life where I don't need as much stuff as I used to think I did. I would like a small separate "room" for a studio though. And because it is small you can afford to add some of the luxury touches that could make it really special to suit you. I think they are a great idea for someone wanting to downsize! |

I don't care that much for massive houses. I can. Live just as well, in a small flat/house. I don't need lots of space. I once lived in a twelve-bedroom residential house. Saying that, it meant living with eleven strangers. Hell, it was such a scary situation, my very first week of living there. I only lived there for six month, as my social worker found me a small flat, after living in residential. I still miss the people there. We had quite good times together. I wish I still lived there, but my social worker wants different for me.

I have a four bedroom detached house just now, but I bought a plot of land last year and have planning permission to build a new house on it. So going to have one built to me and my wife's specifications. It will be my own company that builds it also!

That way you won't get ripped off by the building company, haha So when do you start building? |

In a way I like living in a small place, less stuff. Also means less hassle and responsibility etc.
On the other hand side... I like my stuff. I got two friends that live in a permanent caravan, as does my son. You still got a bit of garden, a shed, lots of privacy. I lived in one myself in Australia and liked it. But as it is ... I'd have to dump so much stuff! And I've already gotten rid of chit loads when I moved in here, and after I had moved. I could dump both my settees ... I NEVER sit on 'em, lol. Never use my tv. But what about my antique cupboard, my drum-kit, my crystals |

Well, start with the outside walls... sure she knows where she wants the front and backdoor by now... and if you gotta change some windows here and there whilst builing... you gotta be a bit flexible you know, lol. I can understand she keeps changing her mind. Difficult to decide on certain things. I know ppl who built a house from scratch, the idiots put the living room on the right, the huge garden on the left, with a garage in between, attached to the house. What's the friggin point of that? No one can see or enter the garden from the living room, they have to walk all the way round the back to get there. So they ended up never using the garden. Totally stupid! If their kids played in the garden, they couldn't even keep an eye on them. Had they swapped location of the garage and living-room, it would've been the perfect house (they bought two lots for it, 1 is the garden that now isn't used). So yeah, you might wanna think it through. And changing your mind, oh well... she's a woman, right, it's her prerogative, hahaha Good luck with it, lol |

I've never been a gold-digger, but now I'm thinking maybe I should've changed that policy a few decades ago, haha. I wouldn't mind my man buying me a car, needn't even be an Audi TT. My ex accused me of being a gold-digger a couple of times. I PMSL, if there's someone who isn't like that, it's me. And he was flat broke, owned a ruin of a home.. YOu'd have to dig real deep to find gold there. As in dig all the way to China or summit. He had this weird thing with money. If he'd buy me a cup of coffee, he felt I was bleeding him dry Some men ... |

I have progressively moved to smaller homes hoping it would prompt me to simplify my life. Has reduced costs I will give it that; but the stuff that requires maintenance is generally still present even in a small place and because you can not have too much then shopping for essential perishables becomes part of the daily or weekly routine which is expensive and much more time consuming.
What I also have found is I resent having other's tell me I am not entitled to have what I worked my whole life for and enjoy it now I finally have the time and privacy to do so. Yes it may simplify their life if they have to come in and "clear out" my old lady stuff but hey I endured their "stuff" so get over it. There is a saying that I am not sure who to credit but it is something like "The home is a window to a person's soul." I know my home reflects a lot of me; past, present, and even future so anyone who hopes to know me would do well to look around. If I pitch out everything I am not currently using it would be like erasing the majority of what made me who I am. What I also have come to learn since I am living alone for the first time is a small home can be more lonely than a large one; so downloading "Stuff" or "people" does not really have that feeling of luxury or peace long if you really like having companions in your life. You find out really fast how many things you need another person to do/enjoy doing. The tiny houses I see would be like living in a cell/solitary. |

Nah, my missus isn't a gold-digger, but I wasn't going to get a brand new car for myself and not get one for her also? I'm just lucky these days that I can do that sort of thing though Crystal! Hasn't always been that way, as when I started the business, years ago, I was working all sorts of hours, to pay the mortgage and feed and clothe my oldest boy! I'd take her anywhere and buy her and my kids anything though! messi_is_a_tim_1888, your family is enjoying the fruits of your labor. Good for you. Maybe you can buy one of those tiny houses, put it on wheels and use it as a vacation home. That way you can have a house that can go with you on vacations. |
