..hmm.. change it is hard to change..
. easy when you're young and free..
. but as you get older and have a life children... belongings... career..
.. making change...... seems unrealistic.....
You do know they will finally turn
18 one day and walk out the door?

Well be nice to them until they leave home.
They are the ones who will select your old-folks home.

You just don't want to put off living in the meantime.
I believe they would want that for you.
Nah..thinking about it, hahaha

They're kids :-)

You have to really level with yourself, if you were in this mythical place with all these new and interesting places to go, would you? ... or would you stay at home with your Kleenex box anyway? Not trying to be mean just that sometimes it is us, creatures of habit and not the options available. Maybe there are options and you are just not seeing them or casting your net wide enough. You do need to get out there, had a girlfriend once that I told, "he is not going to knock on your door", of coarse the joke was on me because he did and asked her for a cup of sugar, so you never know.

well first.. I'm always asking my neighbor for a cup of. "sugar".. sugar.
.... and yes is it a.. question of not being active enough... perhaps too much free time...know.. I have kids..lol.... I just miss the wonderment of seeing new places... the excitement of what's around the next corner.... discovering a new landmark...

..... things are changing here though they're building a new... hockey arena..
. of course the idiots are putting it right downtown....wtf.. as if parking wasn't bad enough..... let alone trying to get out of downtown after work when there's a hockey game on...
... they are building a new museum ...again downtown..... which I can't for the life of me figure out why.... you should have seen where our old.. Museum.. was located... it SAT upon a piece of land overlooking the river valley.... all the citizens... could go there and have a great view of a river valley..... but now they will probably just put house . in its place.... giving only the uber elite.. that beautiful view...hmm.... well at least my boys will have a very beautiful and cultural... city to grow up in... at least until they get bored...... but that's okay I have been secretly putting money away for them.... so they can go travel when . they're older

Don't worry? My oldest stayed until he was 21 and left University. House felt empty when he left though!

Yes, Edmonton, I spent a week there one night smokin
Everyone looks like Wayne Gretsky, that dirty dog #99.

Go and travel Ph, It's hard not to fall for new places you've visited, the people and the newness of it all. Almost everywhere I've visited I tried to picture myself living there, like a total transplant.
I've come to an understanding that I could never recreate what I've built here somewhere else at this point in life. I could but it's not an option. Logistics wise. So Now I get to enjoy my travels, keep my roots here and C'est la vie!

Just travel man, get out of Edmonton as many times as you can during the year drinker

Almost 10 yrs ago I moved a 1,000 miles away from my family. To a city where I knew no one. It's a smaller community just outside of Nashville. This community has festivals, art, tons of music and interesting things going on most of the year. And I also moved to the country. I love living rural. I actually rarely get to Nashville. I don't need to there's no need except every great once in awhile.

I've never been sorry. But then I also moved from the cold north to the not so cold south. lol

I would rather live out in the country... But I live on the outskirts of town a small suburb everything is within a mile of where I live that I need.. That is the one advantage of living in town everything is close by...

If I ever did move it would be out in the country... but within a certain distance from town... I like where I live...

Have I outgrown my city..how could I, it such a great city. There's always so much to do, especially in the summer. Jazz Fest, comedy fest, film fest, Canadian Grand Prix of Formula One racing, old Montreal, the multitude of open terraces, quaint coffee shops. The diversity is wonderful to see, from nationality to fashion to food. Montreal was named North America's leading host city for international events. Can't go wrong there eh ;)

have you or do you feel like you have outgrown your city or town....
.. Edmonton is quite large... but compared to Toronto New York our Vancouver. it is really quite small..
. it just does not hold... the excitement the alure it used to...
.... the romance for me is gone...

.

I understand where you're coming from. I've lived in Montreal pretty much all my life. I don't feel like I've necessarily outgrown it, but I do feel the need for a change. Because of that, I'm planning on moving to France for a while and I might stay for as long as a year. It is both exciting and scary at the same time, but it's a change I feel is necessary in my life right now.

I have to say that Montreal is a city I will never set foot in again. Was for there for business about 20 yrs ago, first I was accused by a hotel manager of being a "professional" as I was sitting in the hotel bar (where I was staying) and told to leave the bar. The next night I took people from the local office out to dinner and the waiter refused to speak to me. The people I was with thought I was English Canadian so he wouldn't talk to me. There were a few other rude treatments I received from Montreal service people in the course of a 2 and 1/2 day visit. Never again.

Rudest city I've ever been to.

I spent my teen years living in a small town in Western Pennsylvania USA. I found myself bored as a teen and the town lacking in many ways. There was also a lot of racism among the locals and it's still present today. I never liked that.

I went to college in the Midwest. While racism was not as prevalent, there was an ever present attitude of focus on the mundane. Radio music was repetitive. Activities and festivals were not diverse. I was impressed only by the people I shared my educational experience with and not the city.

When I moved away after college to California, I was so excited by the diversity of a bigger city. I lived in the Silicon Valley for a long time. The technology industry attracted people from all over the world. The broad cultural content of the people I met in my work and everyday life was so enlightening.

I now live in one of the most metropolitan cities of the world. We have a plethora of cultures living side by side and many festivals to celebrate social and ethnic variety. I love to visit my family back East but I would never think of returning to that small town.

For me, small town equates with isolation. I want my child to grow up with a greater understanding of the world and it's diverse people, ideas and cultures. Though I may not have an opportunity to meet and know individuals well here, I feel better connected to the world and it's peoples. The connection I feel resonates with me. I feel no need to connect individually as I feel connected to the world.

Now the Island has it all...
Tons of outdoors to explore...many majestic places to visit.
Mountains, lakes, rivers, the sea...beautiful.
Great place for kids...lots of activities...all kinds of sports.
Victoria is an hour and a bit away
and if you really crave the big city...
Vancouver is just a ferry boat ride away...
I would never live anywhere else
