Topic: Scars, and the stories behind them. | |

I have a large scar from my wrist to the space between my thumb and pointer finger. Way back, We had a forklift in one of my warehouses that was not working right ( lift would not go up), so a few of us were working on it ( we thought the operator disconnected the battery safety pull) and as I had my hand between the mast chain and the lift channel, the operator leaned forward activating the lift, which took my hand up with it.. between the chain and gears.
Almost ripped my thumb off. They had to cut the chain to get my mangled hand out. Lost a lot of blood. Then they rushed me to the hospital and the docs did surgery to get the arteries closed and my thumb back on. Broke a few bones too. I just remember how long it seamed to be for them to find the bolt cutters to cut the chain. most likely only a minute or so.. but it felt like forever. |

I have a lot of scars. Mostly grease burns. My arms, my face, my breast. I have some cigarette burn scars. I have three scars on my foot and ankle from a dog bite. I have a scar under my knee from where I was playing in a junk yard and ran a wire into my leg. I have a huge chicken pox scar under my eyebrow. Dropped my grandmas punch bowl on my foot when I was little and almost lost my big toe that left a good scar! Have a scar on my back where I got hung under a barbed wire fence snow sledding. One on my eye where i ran into a roll out window of a mobile home trailer. Cut my thumb on a cat food can. My best scar on my stomach it goes from hip to hip from an emergency C section. ![]() Sounds like you're as tough as you are sweet. ![]() ![]() |

My supervisor lost her finger using a lift. |

I've got a discolored scar (kind of bluish) over my left eye. It's from a fire-fighting accident. I was helping the volunteer fire department put out a grass fire, which had been broken in the center and was spreading two directions. I was with the crew that put out the north side of the fire, and we all hopped on the truck to go work on the south end. As we were crossing open terrain, the teenager (he was 18-19) who was driving the truck got up to about 20-25 mph, and, as we hit a wash or small ditch on our path, I - who was standing on a platform hanging onto a rail of the truck - went flying.
I remember actually trying to land "on the run" but being a heavy set slow guy, I could not "keep up" and did a face plant. The frames of my glasses cut a nice gash into my forehead, which I packed with ash, then I climbed back onto the truck and we proceeded. I cleaned it out when I got back to the house (a lot of rubbing alcohol into an open wound, "ouch"), but, once again, I should have gone to the hospital and gotten stitches. I don't believe I got all of the ash out, so hence, the discoloration. It kind of looks like I have a half moon tattoo that I decided not to finish. |

I was thirteen & learning how to waterski got out of the backwash ok couldn't get back in, they brought me in close to shore, I could see the dock coming up, but froze, instead of sitting or letting go I hit the doc & was pulled across it until I did a faceplant in the cabin cruiser on the far side. Finally let go, lost all the skin on my thighs & abdomen but split my chin wide open on the cleat of the cruiser. Took me to the catholic hospital in Penetang & the nuns told me I should have been in church & maybe it wouldn't have happened, very sympathetic bunch. They stitched me up & told me I couldn't go back in the water for two weeks, I was upset but what can you do, I survived!

Had my jaw broken, nose broke, fractured cheekbone, orbit of my eye fractured and broken fingers and smashed knuckles, not to mention countless black eyes, cut lips and eyes from when I boxed in my teenage years. Got my leg broken twice at football ( soccer ) and the cartilege removed from my left knee also. Dislocated my shoulder and popped my elbow also at work and also got run over with a car when I was 7 years old.

I'm lucky. At a post surgery checkup a few years back,
the surgeon said I had amazing healing ability. My scars all eventually fade away. It's a good thing. Would look somewhat Frankenstein..ish otherwise. Plus I don't really want constant reminders. ![]() |

If you look really closely you can see the scar on my face and ear. I was going to a movie with a friend and we decided to ride bicycles. I was visiting her so I did not have a bike. I borrowed her sister's bike. Little did I know that she did not take care of her bike. We were in a hurry so we were riding fast. I hit a very small part of the sidewalk and the front wheel popped off. I flipped over the handle bars and slid on my left side of my face. A lady stopped and said I might lose my ear. Of course, even in my pain and bloody mess, I had to say something witty. I screamed, "I don't want to be like Van Gogh!" I ended up having to get 22 stitches in my face and my ear. I did not lose my ear (although it is a little purple) and my face has very few visible scars.

Scar on my right ankle. I was 14, mowing the lawn for the first time of the season. I was using the push mower to finish up some of lawn that I couldn't get with the rider. I hit something and it shot out the back of the mower and hit my ankle. I reached down to rub my ankle, looked at my hand, it was covered in blood. I shut down the mower and called for my Dad. My parents rushed me to the ER, the nurse came in to clean it out, I sat up and watched her open the cut, it looked like to me like someone cut a raw steak with a knife and opened it up. The nurse stopped and asked if I was ok. I said yes, I had no pain at all. She finished and the doctor came in to stitch me up. That's when I felt the pain of him sticking that needle in the cut to numb it. I did watch him sew it up after it was numb.

myself living on a farm when I was a boy... jump right on that same size nail.. son of a box of raisins... then later on not only once not only twice.. but on three separate occasions.. I had my. head torn open by wild dogs... I must smell like bacon..lol.... when I was living in the Rocky Mountains.. I was doing a little freestyle climbing... missed my finger hold.... and fell about 35 feet.. cracked my jaw on a jagged rock.. ... to this day I can't eat rock candy..lol..... in a drunken rage... I put my foot.. my barefoot.. threw a plate glass window... severing my big toe... .... I have worked in construction off and on.... once while using the skill saw... it kicked out of my.. grip.. just enough to slice into my.... work boot. ... slicing into the meaty part... right below my big toe...... on another occasion.. I was using a pneumatic nailer... to put up roof trusses... shot the nail right through the 2 by 6..... into my thumb.... . it came through the bottom part of my thumb.. and left a very nice little hole in my thumbnail.... hurt worse than getting hit by a hammer..lol.. . . Are you missing a big toe now? |

Holy crap ... I strongly suggest getting someone in when you feel the need to be Bob the Builder again.. I ain't surprised your back objects at times, if you've fallen down 10 meters.. 10 meters, ef me! And you're missing a toe? How is it you're still alive? ![]() |

I have 1 1/2 inch scar on my right foot instep from when I stepped on broken glass while cutting through the empty lot trying to catch up with my sister when I was 5. That was a big cut for a little foot! I was more upset that it ruined my new red shoes!

I have 4 scars. First one on my outer calf when I was 6 sliding over the arm of the couch. A nail stuck out and got me good. The next one is in my right arm, above the elbow where my brother stabbed me with a pencil. The third is in my eyebrow. I was riding my bike with my feet on the handle bars steering, I took a curve and hit a gravel patch and skidded across the road with my face. 13 stitches with that one. The last one was over 500 stitches and I am not going to tell where.
